    hops addition

All, Its been a long time since on the forums. Love this place. I am close to graduating to all grain and have graduated to a nice kegging system and my beers are consistent and good (to others, i want a more fresh beer as i hope all grain will give that) my question. I wanted to hit my...

    5 gallon

hello all, I was wondering; could you fill a 5 gallon 1/2 way, and bottle the rest? just curious. I have a 2.5 gallon and its perfect. I keg 1/2 of the batch then bottle a case. But the 5 gallon keg is cheaper than a 2.5 so I was just curious. Thanks to all!! :rockin:

    my first kegging experience; help

Ok all, I have been brewing for a year now and love it all. I decided to purchase a 2.5 gallon keg. Awesome small set up. Bought the (small compact) regulator and co2 cartridges. Here is my issue: I just transfered the ipa into the keg. When I tried to force carbinate it, i could hear it all...

    12 gallon glass carboy

hello all, I was given a 12 gallon glass carboy and wanted to get a rubber stopper and air lock for it. The sucker weighs 77 pounds by itself! Any clue on size? (i read conflicting info; #12?) Bottling my wildflower wheat ale this am. LB :rockin:

    fermentation

hello all, its been a great time here and brewing 6 batches since i started a few months ago.. all have really come out nice. by average, i have seen fermentation slow down and stop by day 4-5 and zero activity by 6. I came across a extract kit called wildflower wheat. the store told me he...

    mistake # 2

Ok need some help. i am all set to bottle my torpedo ipa. and i realize that I must not have topped it off with water when i had it in the primary. I bought a 6 1/2 glass carboy, marked it with tape but i must have topped it off to the lower part of the tape.....not the top so a gallon never...

    fizz drops

getting ready to bottle my torpedo clone and thought to try the fizz drops instead of the priming sugar. Any input on this product? To me I like consistency and this ensures that each bottle has the same amount of carbonation. Thoughts? Off tastes? :tank:

    OG question

Hello all, Happy Psalm Sunday! I made an Irish Blonde Ale last night and it was to have a OG of 1.052 but I got 1.082. I obviously added too much sugars (I think I added too much Pilsen Malt Syrup). Questions: #1) If I leave it be, will I just have a stronger ABV? and #2) Can you add more...

    Star San

is it wrong to fill your unused carboy with san star while it awaits your next batch?? can it get smelly? I was thinking that if i cleaned it well, then just kept it full....shake it up, drain and its ready to go......

    Hops

When utilizing hops in the boil whether in the beginning or at the end, I am seeing people placing them into muslin bags. I've been just tossing them in without the bag. Whats right? (i am using pellets)

    Newbie looking for direction

Hello All ~ Just racked my first red ale, with a pale ale waiting for the same this weekend. I wanted to try and duplicate my favorite summer ale; Shipyard Summer Ale from Portland Maine. I figured start now and tweak as the months approach. Here are characteristics off their web site. Can...

thoughts on hydrometer being left in

What are your thoughts on that once you move to the secondary you leave your hydrometer in the second fermenter. Each day or week you can better document the sg, without constantly opening it up and inserting a baster to grab a sample. Yes that cost monies for extra meters, but cuts down on...

    one more Irish moss question

So the Irish Moss worked. No doubt. I found this batch (an IPA with extra hops) to be very difficult to transfer into the carboy. My funnel has a screen in it, and it kept getting clogged. Is this because the moss was grabbing all the proteins and coagulating them....AND I just noticed...

    Moved to second fermenter today

Hello! After a week in the primary, I moved to the second fermentor. Should I cover that as well with a towel to keep light out? Starting my next batch tonight! :D

    dry hop

onto my second batch. While my first red ale sits and works things through, I visited my local brew pub and supply store to get my newest ingredients. I am making a clone of the Sierra Nevada Torpedo Extra IPA. It calls for Dry Hopping: .66 Magnum 1 oz Crystal .66 Citra So I get...
