    too long for dry hopping

I dry hopped in my primary with one oz of mosaic for 14 days. Now I am paranoid about having a grassy/stemmy/veggie flavor. I tasted my hydro sample, it tasted good but I feel like I'm getting that stemmy after taste. Did I dry hop too long?

What did your hop schedule look like? Mine went like this: All mosaic- .3oz @60min .2oz @30min .5oz @20min .5oz @10min .5oz @2min And I I'm dry hopping with another oz.

    cold crashing

And I just saw this ^^ My primary is a bucket, that shouldn't matter though, right? My secondary would be a plastic bottle. Why cold crash in the primary vs. secondary? Isn't better to get the beer off of the trub for cold crashing? And if I cold crash in the primary, should I just start to...

    cold crashing

Yes. So rack it as usual and whatever makes it into secondary (hop material) should sink after a few days?
  7. i_heart_beer

    cold crashing

Edit( sent to early ) Does it matter if any hop material gets into the secondary? Will it sink if it does? This is my first time dry hopping an 2nd time cold crashing. Is there a good/easy way to do this?

    10 gallon paint strainers?

I believe you can order one, I just went through this with a buddy, I was doing biab on my stove top and wanted to do a single mash and a single boil for a 5.5 gal batch. We decided it was easier and cheaper to build a mash tun. But yes, you can get bigger straining bags, you just have to...

    cold crashing

Ok, right on. Thanks. One more question... Is cold crashing effective without using gelatin?

    cold crashing

Thanks for all the info. I did buy some Irish moss for my next batch, is that just as good as whirlflock? What about combining that with a cold crash? Doubly clear? And of course, thanks again for the great info and speedy replies, much appreciated!

Can i prime and bottle while still cold, or do i need to let the beer get to room temp?

    Mash Tun

I also plan on sparging in it, picked up a ball valve, a bazooka tube and some other brass fittings... This particular cooler had no existing drain so I can put my bazooka tube way in the corner, I bet with everything, I only spent 60$ (give or take)

    Mash Tun

I'm also new to brewing and picked up a 48qt(12 gal) Rubbermaid beverage cooler. Not round, but rectangle. I'm pretty confident on the efficiency and it also was only 20$ at menards.

I have a beer c/c now too, any ill effects if it happen to freeze? ( not freeze solid, but slushy/frozen)?

    GF fat tire clone attempt

I'm pretty green myself and I had that thought too. I was, however, under the impression that the yeast nutrients had to be thrown into the boil. I'd have to save that as a last resort. Before I ::gulp:: dump it... Just curious, have you heard/read that putting the nutrients into the primary...

    GF fat tire clone attempt

Ok....so, more than a week since I've pitched the us-05 and I've only dropped down to 1028...I'm beginning to think that leaving out the yeast nutrients was a terrible idea. Is there any way to salvage this batch?
