1st AG batch a total nightmare!

My all-grain session yesterday lasted from around noon until 4:30. And that includes cleaning up and setting up my Igloo cube fermentation cooler. It's still in the 90's here in CFL and my barn has a tin roof so I have to keep it cool. After a few sessions it gets easier. Something crazy always...

    Using Iodophor

I've used an iodine solution before and there was defined iodine funk to the brews. I ditched that method and bought some Star San. Problem solved.

    Yeast Incident

Yesterday I decided to brew another batch of Pale Ale. I use EW's recipe with a slight variation. Anyway I decided to use some yeast I had saved from my last batch of Pale Ale. I had three twelve oz. Sam Adams bottles with harvested yeast. The plan was to pour them into the carboy before I...

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Well I brewed another batch a week ago. I used all the ingredients as listed and added 4 oz. of honey malt. I plan on checking it today to see if it's finished, although I will probably wait until next weekend to bottle it. An extra week only seems to make it better. I just loves me some Haus...

    First Home Made Ale Recipe

Thanks for the comments. I just went out and checked on my brew and it's bubbling away very contently. I'm keeping my glass carboy in an Igloo cube cooler with a foam lid and submersed in water to keep the temps around 60 degrees. Now that the temps here in FL are a bit cooler I won't have to...

    First Home Made Ale Recipe

I'm brewing my third AG recipe today and decided to experiment with a recipe of my own. I have made EdWort's Haus Ale twice with great results and I will be using the batch sparge method like he calls for. My recipe is as follows: 4# Rahr 2-row 4# Maris Otter 1# Vienna Malt 1# Victory Malt...

    Yeast Bombs?

It went very well today. Beer's now in the fermentor in my shop. I have a 60 qt. Igloo Cube that it resides in and I keep a couple of 16 oz. bottles of ice in it to keep the temps down. Right after I put the airlock on we had a nice evening shower that cooled things off a bit. My guess is that...

    Yeast Bombs?

Today I am brewing EW's Haus Pale Ale. This will be my second AG batch and I botttled and saved the yeast cake. So I took one out of the frodge and shook it up to mix the trub with the beer that was seperated from it and decided I needed to bleed off some pressure. Well... it was a yeast foam...

FG Question on 1st AG Try

Prof. Frink, I think I'll wait till next Saturday before kegging it, as I'll probably bottle a few and I don't want any bombs. Hey, I grew up with a bunch of Frinks over in Bladen County, NC.:mug:

FG Question on 1st AG Try

Last Sunday I brewed my first AG beer which is EW's Hause Pale Ale. It has been fermenting in an Igloo Cube at 66-70F and today I did an SG reading and it looks to be fermented out at around 1.012. I started with an OG of around 1.048 so I'm guessing this one's about done. I drank the beer from...

    1st All Grain session

After I had all my wort in my keggle it took about 30-40 minutes to come to a boil. It was hot out, but I brewed under my car port in the shade. I rolled my flats boat out onto the driveway so I'd have some room. I'll take some pic's next time.

    1st All Grain session

Had my first all grain brew day yesterday. I made Ed Worts' Haus Pale Ale with a small twist. I substituted the 1/2 lb of 10L Malt for 1/4 lb. of Honey Malt & 1/4 lb. of 60L Malt. I found out after I made the switch that I actually had some 15L Malt but what the heck. I also substituded the last...

Apfelwein - 20 Minute Lag Time!

Well it didn't erupt like I thought it would and it's still chugging happily along. It is rather cloudy now but I suspect it will clear as the weeks go by. The hardest part is having to wait though.

Apfelwein - 20 Minute Lag Time!

Just finished getting my carboy and first batch of EdWort's Apfelwein situated. It's already bubbling 20 minutes after pitching the yeast. Yikes! I used 5 gallons of Mott's (cheap at Costco), 2# of corn sugar and an 11.5 gram packet of Safbrew WB-06 Wheat Beer Yeast. There is already a kreusen...

    Gusher

Update on the gusher. Seems that the one gusher is the only one so far. I've opened three since the gusher and they have all been carbonated perfectly. As for the Phat Tyre Ale, it's OK but I wouldn't brew it again. I liked the Nut Brown Ale that was my first brew much better.:mug:

    Gusher

Just opened one of my Phat Tyre Ales and it's a gusher after 2 1/2 weeks in the bottle. I had it in the fridge for 24 hours and it gushed like crazy when opened. This beer was in primary for 1 week and secondary for two weeks. The FG was higher than I had expected at 1.018 and I made sure sure...
