    Cincy HBT Group Brew Day

As Oddball said - "I only ride 'em, I don't know what makes 'em work. " That was a constant theme during the brewing that day! S'ok though - it was sufficiently cold outside to numb my brain!

Vienna Lager Extract - Issues Starting Fermentation

Just a quick update. Still no action this afternoon. I just got back from Listermann's where they usggested either just leaving it or throwing some additional yeast on it. For $1.25 or so I just bought another packet of yeast (and a better aerator stir stick - since my spoon doesn't reach...

Vienna Lager Extract - Issues Starting Fermentation

I talked with Dan Listermann prior to pitching the yeast. He recommended just throwing it into the wort dry. I really don't have an opinion either way regarding dry or rehydrated yeast - I really just wanted to follow the directions. The instructions pretty much indicate that fermentation...

Vienna Lager Extract - Issues Starting Fermentation

Hi All, Yes, this is another one of those threads on "wtf my beer won't start fermenting". This is also my first lager attempt. Firstly, the recipe I used was from Listermann's. It's their Vienna Lager recipe (found here): http://www.listermann.com/PDF/Vienna.pdf I made this batch on...

    Hydrometer how to test/use

Every hydrometer I've seen in the store (and the one I have) came with a little instruction sheet that included a temperature reconciliation chart. Basically it'll tell you how much sSG (specific gravity) to add to your reading based upon the temperature of your liquid. HTH! alow

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I recall reading something about this also, I think it's somewhere in the pages of this thread. I think you could get close to an amount (without making a bottle bomb) by calculating the sugars in the concentrate. I can't do the math right now, but I'm sure someone can look at a can and...

Old CO2 Regulator - Is it good or should I get a new one?

It says "Oxygen Series Compressed Gas Regulator" at the bottom front. That being said, it's been hooked up to a 20lb CO2 tank for several years, so I know that connection is OK. I'd also need to get a splitter for the line out. I'm on the fence about it, but I may just get a whole new...

Old CO2 Regulator - Is it good or should I get a new one?

Are gauges all "standard" with regards to threading and what not? Also, where can I find gauges - I assume some online beverage/food retailer? It was new when purchased and only ever had CO2 put through it. I know there are purities of CO2 out there, but what would affect the "usability"...

Old CO2 Regulator - Is it good or should I get a new one?

Hi All, So far the process to setup a keg fridge has been pretty fun and relatively painless. I'm still gathering equipment and reading up on setups, etc. I used to have a large saltwater reef aquarium that I used CO2 setup that I used to produce calcium carbonate for my corals. I still...

    Better Bottle 5 Gallon Sale

Hi All, Just got back from Listermann's here in Cincinnati. Thought I'd let everyone know they have a few 5 Gallon Better bottle carboys on sale for $14.96. Not affiliated with them, just thought I'd pass it on. Perfect for EdWort's Apfelwein recipe..... See ya! alow

    popping the apple/cherry

Generally cider ages better over time, so the longer the better. That being said, you can drink it at any time though.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I think the general consensus was that it's around 5-6%. Did you take the SG before you started - might give you a more exact idea.

Apple Cider fermenting not even opened from the store

I am currently working on a 5g batch of apple cider (pasteurized only) that has 3 lbs of light brown sugar in it. It's pretty much done fermenting at this point, and I tasted it - not tart at all, but it's only 3 weeks old at this point. I would guess that using dark vs light brown sugar...

First Hard Cider Attempt - Problems?

Just a quick update on this cider. I took another SG reading tonight. It's right at 1.000. It was bubbling pretty well the past week, slowed down a ton the past 2 days or so and then completely stopped today. Funny thing was after the first SG check last week, I kinda sloshed the carboy...

    Opinions on my Recipe Modification?

adrock, We'll have to get together and compare our EdWort brews - I've got mine going in the basement right now - except a yeast difference from his original recipe. alow
