    Carbonation problem

Great info, thanks so much for the help. I moved the bottles to a warmer area, and I will wait a few more weeks.

    Carbonation problem

Thanks for the info. The beer is about 5.5% ABV. I added the recommended amount of sugar. How would I add yeast starter to the bottles? How do you calculate and add that? Thanks

    Carbonation problem

I brewed a bourbon barrel porter that I left in the primary for 2 weeks, then transfered to a barrel and added bourbon. I left it in the bourbon barrel for over 3 weeks, then bottled it. When I bottled it I used priming sugar that I boiled with water as directed and added it to the bottling...

    Using Oak chips in fermentation

How long should you soak oak chips in Bourbon before adding them to the secondary fermentation? Does it make a difference if you add the chips and bourbon to the beer at the same time? or should you soak the chips in bourbon for a week or so?

Secondary Fermenting in an Oak Barrel

I just transferred a Porter that I brewed and fermented in my primary for just over 2 weeks into a 2.5 gallon american oak barrel. I added 1 cup of bourbon and I am going to secondary ferment it for 1 month in the barrel. I was wondering if I need to attach an air lock or if I can just seal it...

    Air lock drawing in fluids

I will change out the air lock and see what happens, I didn't think leaking was a problem since I saw the fluid being drawn into the fermenter. I will say that the temp has dropped several degrees as we are seeing very cold temps recently and my basement is cooler than usual. I put a space...

    Barrel aging question

I am planning on aging a portion of a porter that I recently brewed in a 2.5 gallon american oak barrel that I purchased from Thousand Oaks Barrels. I was planning on adding about 8 oz of bourbon, swishing it around in the barrel for a few days, then adding the beer. (I already filled the barrel...

    Air lock drawing in fluids

I don't see any cracks, and as soon as I added the one step solution I could see it getting sucked into the fermenter.

    Air lock drawing in fluids

Thanks for the reply, so I should not seal the air lock now that fermentation is complete? I also have an S - shaped airlock that I am not using that has a sealed cap on it and I thought about replacing the current air lock with this? My main concern at this time is that the air lock may be...

    Air lock drawing in fluids

I am having a problem with my air lock, my beer has been in the primary fermenter for 10 days now, I am using a 14.5 gallon more beer conical. The fermentation has stopped, and I noticed yesterday that the water in the air lock was low so I tried adding some Vodka, I filled it to the line and...
