Thanks. I was able to get it going by switching the red and yellow wires.

Using an old temperature probe that came with my Brau Supply controller and not Spike’s. It is possible that is wired differently from what Spike ships, although I would have thought it was a standard part.

Easier to just use a reptile pad heater taped to the cone and plugged in to your controller.

Thanks jtvann. By 50% do you mean you are turning over your mash volume every two minutes, or is this just a variable speed setting for your pump?

I think we’ve been having different issues. My grain bed compaction/drainage has been ok - only issues with grain pass-through. I’ve been recirculating at 1 gpm with a full volume mash with 9.5 gal of mash water / 11 lb of grain. Target preboil of around 7 gallons.

Not sure about a March pump, but it's working for me with a Chugger.

I actually installed a blank on the top port, put the thermowell on the next one down, and sample off of the racking valve (attaching the sample valve at the other valve’s outlet).

I've been doing 5 gallon batches in mine (about 6 gallons into the fermenter) since July/August in mine. Works great.

I don’t have the Spike pump, but my small pump is inside the reservoir and I’ve hooked it to a tube to a hose barb connector in the Penguin lid. I then have another tube from the connector to the Spike coil.

I’ve done the same. I am using a 1.5” blank in the top port, and use the racking port for samples.
