    Galaxy hops in stock again

2018 galaxy pops up on lupulin exchange pretty often. The prices are outrageous so I haven't bitten yet.

    Yeastman

I have a commercial account but haven't ordered anything yet. Sorry to be so unhelpful.

    Tell me about grain mills....

Yeah, it's an incomplete and temporary solution. Even after flipping the rollers I still get stuck grain from time-to-time. I've found that wetting the grain helps. If it weren't for the fact that this thing is pretty expensive (I think I paid ~$150 for it) I would have dumped it and bought a...

Smacked a Wyeast smack pack and left it on the counter for 4 hours...did not use!

Just wondering if my smack pack is still ok or the yeaties are toast. Like the title says, I smacked the smack pack and left it on the counter for 4+ hours last night thinking I would get around to making a starter. Turns out I didn't have any DME. So back in the fridge it went overnight and...

    Tell me about grain mills....

The barley crusher will work great for about a year and then the knurls will soften and it will stop feeding grain. You can disassemble the unit and flip the rollers which will get you another lease on life, but alas, that too won't last forever.

IPA - Centennial & Amarillo - what else?

Simcoe + amarillo is a killer combo for whirlpool & dryhop.

Recipe Identification -- What would you call this?

Yeah, I'm insanely sensitive to roasted malts and would have picked up on that 4oz of carafa III right away.

NEIPA yeast that are less likely to produce diacytle?

NEIPA yeast that are less likely to produce diacytle?

I use WLP066 and never need to add hops during active fermentation. Hell, I add gelatin and cold crash to ~38° and its still hazy as all get out. It's by far my favorite NEIPA strain. It doesn't give me that burnt rubber after taste that 1318 leaves behind. This bad boy has zero adjuncts in it:

My New England IPA is never hazy enough.

FWIW, when I used WLP095 Burlington I got one of the clearest beers I've ever made lol.

Do any online vendors mill grain at a .025" gap??

I'm pretty sure online vendors just fill up a bag and whack it on the counter a few times. Seriously, it's not good.

    Burton Ale Yeast WLP023

It's really really good, especially for a pretty basic blonde ale. I plan on using this yeast again for an amber/brown ale later this month.

S23. Dopplebock. One or two packs?

A lot of good info here (max abv range is 9%-11%): https://fermentis.com/en/fermentation-solutions/you-create-beer/saflager-s-23/ Data sheet: https://fermentis.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/10/SafLager-S-23.pdf S-23 vs W-34/70 comparison...

S23. Dopplebock. One or two packs?

I'd recommend rehydrating the pack of S23 and throwing it in.

S23. Dopplebock. One or two packs?

S-23 is great is darker lagers where it the esters compliment the roast/caramel flavors. I am not a fan of it in light lagers. I always use 2 packs, rehydrated, in my 5-gallon lager batches.

Getting the most from dry hops..NEIPA

I've found that the method laid out by @HopsAreGood is the best way to go about dry hopping. finish fermentation, crash to ~ 58° for 24-48 hours, raise back up to 65°+ then add dry hops. I also throw in a d-rest after a few days because of the diacytl produced by hop creep. Having a FermWrap...

    WLP023 Burton...Holy Sulfur, Batman!

To follow up on this thread, the blonde ale I made using this yeast turned out superb. There is still a hint of sulfur, but it's mostly relegated to the aroma and not the flavor of the beer. I've off-gassed the keg a few times in hopes of dissipating it even more. It did mute the hops a little...
