My adventure of opening a brewery in Chicago

Thanks Demon! If you don't mind me asking, and if it's not too much of a hassle, could you give us an idea of what you used to piece together the 7 bbl? I've been struggling to get a 4 bbl together for less than 30K, and I would definitely love to be at 7. Thanks again, Aaron

My adventure of opening a brewery in Chicago

I would be interested in knowing this as well. We're also in the startup phase, and also thinking about going with the 4 bbl from Psychobrew, but are having a difficult time ballparking the buildout costs.

All - does anyone have any extra tix to the rare beer tasting at Wyncoop on 9/25? I'm looking for 4, but will take as many as i can get. Thanks, Norm

    2009 GABF, September 24-26

I'll be there, working all sessions except (hopefully) Saturday night. If anyone has extra tix to the Wynkoop rare beer tasting, I'd be interested in taking them off of your hands!

The MT is taken - thanks for all of the responses!

    Free Mash Tun

All - added this to the classifieds, but don't seem to be getting any responses. At any rate, I have a square Coleman cooler-type MT I'm getting rid of. Brass ball valve, weldless thermometer, 60 qt capacity i believe. I just upgraded to a pot with false bottom, but don't want to just throw...

    Sanitizing Conical Fermenter

All - Just picked up a 14.2 G Fermenator, and am wondering how I'm going to sanitize it on brew day. I typically use iodophor, but I'd like to not have to mix up 14 gallons of the stuff if at all possible. How do you guys do it? Thanks, Norm

    Copper/Soldering Question

Excellent - love that free-ranging flux, but my sterling solder supply has dried up in recent months!

    Sparge Ring Attachment for HLT

Catt - that is bad a**, especially the electric thermo probe. Is there something on the bottom of your cross-bar that tightens around the vertical CPVC tube to control the height, or is the hole in the cross member just tight enough to control height w/o that?

    Copper/Soldering Question

All, Made an IC and a sparge ring from copper over the last week. Both have fittings I sweated on that will contact the wort/water. Used lead-free flux and lead-free silver solder. When soldering these on, I made sure to try to only heat the fitting, not the pipe. Nonetheless, the pipe...

    Sparge Ring Attachment for MLT

Thanks guys. Bobby - I have a SS lid, but I'm hesitant to drill a hole in it, since it needs to cover the MT when I'm mashing, and I don't want the heat loss. Does this make any sense?

    Sparge Ring Attachment for HLT

All - Posted this in the DIY forum as well, so sorry if you're reading this 2X. I use a 15 gal kettle as a MLT. I want to use a copper sparge ring, but need to be able to adjust its height for varying grain bed depths. My first thought was to solder an upright to it, and simply lay a bar...

    Copper Fittings Safe to Use?

All, Need to sweat a few copper bends onto copper tuning for my recirculation chiller, as well as to various other places on my system. I was going to order most of these from McMaster, but in looking at the catalog page (McMaster-Carr), I note that the fittings are only rated to 200...
