    Chocolate Wheat help

Gotcha. Also read now that regular bars can make it taste waxy. Thanks. Good luck with your brew. I'm starting mine as soon as the one grain I'm missing comes in. Sent from my Nexus 7 using Home Brew mobile app

    Chocolate Wheat help

These two websites both say that there is about 12-13 grams of fat per oz. of cocoa nibs. That's only slightly less than my high cocoa chocolate bar. But I think I'll trust what experience has shown from other people and just go with some nibs or powder. Thanks guys...

    Chocolate Wheat help

Thanks guys. I'm going to get some cocoa powder. Just curious though, the cocoa nibs probably have a lot more fat than this chocolate bar. So I don't understand completely but I will listen :-) Sent from my Nexus 7 using Home Brew mobile app

    Chocolate Wheat help

I am making a chocolate wheat beer that I have never made before. I currently have an 85% cocoa chocolate bar that I am hoping to use instead of nibs. I am curious if this is acceptable. I have read of people using cocoa powder so I figured it would work. I have two concerns: quantity and...

    Skeeter Pee - Airlock Question

Thanks! I'm wondering if this will harm/discolor my copper item? (The only thing I have that is copper is nice pot that I use for a display piece, aka I don't want to mess it up.)

    Skeeter Pee - Airlock Question

As stated above, I did use a little too much k meta. The skeeter pee has cleared, and I moved it to another bucket to get it off all the settled particles. I noticed that it has a slightly sulfur smell and even a little bit of a taste. I am not sure if it is from the k meta or just a smell that...

    Skeeter Pee - Airlock Question

What would be the appropriate amount? I already put .5 tsp kmeta and 2.5 tsp of sorbate in (~5.75 gallons) when I added the sparkoloid. Do I need to add more when I rack onto the raspberries?

    Skeeter Pee - Airlock Question

Last night I checked the gravity and it had reached 1.00. I added both of the preservatives from the skeeter pee recipe that has a website. I also added some sparkoloid. I want half of my batch to be a raspberry lemonade and am curious if this is a good way of achieving it...Once it has...

    Skeeter Pee - Airlock Question

Thanks. That is exactly what I was doing with the lid. I was also whipping it everyday as well. Is doing both of these excessive and unnecessary?

    Skeeter Pee - Airlock Question

Making skeeter pee similar to the recipe on the skeeter pee website. However, I didn't have a slurry so I made a strong starter from a gallon of water, two cups sugar, my yeast and a 24 hour wait. Anyway, I read somewhere that if you are doing it this way, you shouldn't use the airlock for a...

    Back Sweetening Question

Thanks for all the advice and info everyone. I believe I am going to go with the method Yooper mentioned. One last question though...as I own a large chest freezer I have to ask about the freezing thing that you mentioned. Would that effect the taste of the cider? I'm a little scared of the fact...

    Back Sweetening Question

Dang! Oh Well... Not doubting you at all, just curious about the science behind it...I thought of yeast as a living thing that would need nutrients to reproduce/survive. Therefore, my batch would eventually run out of sugar, its nutrient, and reproduction would stop. Given enough time I figured...

    Back Sweetening Question

The quick and dirty question is can I back sweeten my cider without pasteurization/refrigeration/chemicals etc. if I wait long enough for all the yeast to die? Will all the yeast die if I wait long enough? If so, how long would that be? My situation: Made a 4 gallon batch that spent three...

Tips advice before starting this batch.

Sounds like a good plan! I wasn't sure if they would go bad or not. But if not, might as well conduct a little experiment.

Tips advice before starting this batch.

Finished racking this out of the secondary today. I ended up not using any cranberries, might try something like that next time. The Lactose I used was not very sweet but that ended up being ok because I like it dry anyway. I'll be doing my next batch soon! I had a quick question about...

Tips advice before starting this batch.

Thanks for all the advice. SG it's currently still 1.032. I'll probably check it again in another four or five days since it is only about halfway there. I plan on cold crashing and racking onto some cranberries for at least a week, probably longer. Haven't heard great things about splenda and...

Tips advice before starting this batch.

Thanks! I'll move to the secondary a little earlier like you suggest. I left it a lot longer last time I made a batch so I am curious to see if it clears things out better. I ended up only using enough sugar to bring it up to 1.060. Guess I got lucky because I thought it might end up too weak...

Tips advice before starting this batch.

I am planning to start the following batch of cider this afternoon but it is only the second time I have brewed anything. It is also my first time with a hydrometer and two carboys so I wanted any advice or help I can get! Still have a couple questions... 2 Gal of Natures Promise Apple Juice...

    Stopping Fermentation/Bottling

Side note/question...is it likely that bottles will blow with a cider that has no carbonation? I had no trouble with mine but can see it easily occurring.

    Stopping Fermentation/Bottling

Ha I am in no way disagreeing with you. You are most certainly right. Currently I have no second carboy to siphon to and no store at which to buy a hydrometer. I will be investing in both very soon. I will be preforming the method you described with future batches because it makes the most sense...
