Leftover Pale Ale - recipe input

hey all - I'm looking to brew an APA in prep for thanksgiving . also using mostly what I've got on hand - hence the name "leftover". tried to keep this cheap, just needing some cascades/yeast - - everything else I had on hand. to generalize - I'm shooting for something in the arena of...

Can i dry hop to fix diacetyl?

Awesome! Thanks for the advice all. Not sure which way ill go; but good to know I've got options and may improve a slightly sub-par batch. Cheers! -beermethatbeer Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

Can i dry hop to fix diacetyl?

Title pretty much says it. Did a cali common lager, thought i had it nailed but maybe i rushed it? Definite diacetyl/butterscotch flavor. (Lets not diagnose here, though) Its drinkable, but im just not a huge fan. Its in the keg now, and fully carbed up. Any suggestions for some dry hops i can...

    Buffalo NY group buy?

Fwiw; I've been in on the past few Pittsburgh group buys. Very we'll organized, easy splits, awesome prices (once you discount travel; but I went to college at PITT, so I go back a few times annually to visit friends and pick up grain). I've got like 250+ lbs of 2row/Maris otter/ red...

    Buffalo Brew Club anyone?

Hey, let me know your thoughts. I've thought about hooking up with some other home brewers for awhile, but just busy in the past half-year. Though, i know theres a big diff between just hanging out, and starting an official club. Hope your first batch went well. Ive got a saison fermenting in...

    falconer's flight hops

I just dry hopped a split batch APA that I made with 1 oz falconers flight; and I love how it came out. Nice classic pale ale/microbrew flavor (if that makes any sense?) Basically, I'd pay for this beer in a bar if I could. You'll love it. Def worked for me, for this style. - beermethatbeer...

    Citra rubber band taste

No; though, once I made a Citra/Maris Otter Smash , and got a real piney/"catty" smell. Stashed it away for 2 months and it mellowed into a killer pale ale. Maybe the same will happen to yours? - beermethatbeer Sent from my iPad using Home Brew

Belle Saison Yeast at lower temps

Awesome, thanks all. Think ill give the aquarium heater a shot. Love "low tech" cheap/easy solutions . (Like my corona mill that i hand-crank!) Ive got a sack of belgian 2row coming; pumped for winter saison! Thx! -beermethatbeer

Belle Saison Yeast at lower temps

Anyone ever used this yeast in the mid/low 60's? My fermentation temps are pretty stable, yet uncontrolled. Looking to brew a lemongrass/ginger saison. But hoping to at least get some of the "saison-ish" elements from this yeast. (Backup plan is to just use US-05) trying to stick to dry yeast...

    APA Recipe - splitting/dry hopping

hey all, looking to get your thoughts on this recipe (5 gal batch). I'm trying to do a pretty basic APA, and plan on splitting into 2 batches after fermenting, and dry hopping separately. anything look off here? hop schedule look ok? or possible clashes of flavor in my drop hops? 2 Row...

    Buffalo NY group buy?

I've still got a bunch of base grain from a Pittsburgh buy I got in on this year, but if this gets up and running could always grab another sack or two. Better yet, if anyone is up for it, would split a few malts with people? I'm thinking 1/2 sack each of Rye/Munich/Wheat should get me through...

English Brown Ale Recipe - any thoughts?

just curious if anyone has thoughts on this recipe (note - I brewed this today, so its too late to change) but i'm always open to learning, or hearing input from the public so I can improve it next time (if needed - that is; looked/smelled/tasted pretty good going into the fermentor!) what I...

    Citra hops and off flavors

I did a Citra/Maris Otter smash and totally get the cat pee thing too; well more of a cat pee/pine/citrus thing (weird). Total bummer. But good experimenting, i guess. Ive read that it may be from using citra for bittering? At this point im going to stash it for 2-3 months and hope it ages out...

    Storing kegged beer

Awesome, thanks. Thats what i thought. Keep reading that a keg is like "a big bottle", so now i feel better (assuming i keg correctly; one keg in, i think my procedure/sanitation was good) Right, should have mentioned style. Probably keep to a blonde or amber. Styles that i dont have to worry...

    Storing kegged beer

Lets say I keg a beer, prime w some sugar purge with some CO2 and seal. How long am I still OK to keep this keg "in waiting" for my tap to free up. (Yes, I've only got 1 tap; ghetto rigged 3.3 cu ft kegerator that I built; that works awesome btw!) Just want to make sure I keep my rotation in...

    Low Efficiency, Low Moral

Also..how is your crush? I had a seemingly low efficiency until i started to crush much finer than i thought was healthy. Worked out perfectly, up to 78% from 66% before. Just a thought. -beermethatbeer

    Nylon washer missing; problem?

Great, thanks. Good news is that i found the washer in the box for my conversion kit. And yes, that is what i meant; washer that goes on the end of the shank; at the end of the beer line. (Instuctions call it a washer at least) Cant wait to drink it; glad to know it wont leak everywhere!

    Nylon washer missing; problem?

Just filled my first keg; all went well, i think- but after reading around, looks like im missing the nylon washer between the beer line and shank(door mounted tap). Am i doomed to a leaky system, or some kind of impossibly stuck connections. Guess ive got 2 weeks before liquid flows. Just...
