    Thin wall tubing?

I ordered 3/16 ID vinyl and tubing and had it delivered yesterday. I failed to see that it was 5/16 OD instead of 7/16. Are there any issues with using the thin wall tubing for my beer/soda lines. All of the homebrew stores I see sell the thick wall tubing exclusively.

    Why is my beer flat?

I have a Vienna lager in my keezer right now. It is totally flat. I've had it under pressure for 1.5 months now. I subscribe to the set and forget method. So 1.5 months ago, I set my temperature to 40 degrees and the PSI on my regulator to 14, shooting for just north of 2.5 volumes. After two...

    Two heatsticks off one PID?

I apologize if this has been addressed before, but I couldn't find the answers I was looking for using the search function on the app or using google. So, I am building an e-Herms and I am in the last phase of putting it together. I have two 120v, 2000w heat sticks that I will be using to...

What gauge electrical cord for element

Another noob diving in to electric brewing, so forgive my ignorance. Am I correct in assuming that with the below heating element (5500w 240v) that a 10 gauge electrical cord (10 ft at most) will be required and a 30amp dedicated circuit for each element? I have plenty of room for the...

    Cheap 240v temperature controller

Any thoughts on using this to control the water temperature in my HLT using a Camco 5500w ULW heating element for an eHERMS build? http://m.rakuten.com/product/230517930?listingid=213429172&adid=18172 Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    Knockout punch

I am just starting to piece together parts and tools for an electric build. Everything I've looked at makes me think I'll be needing to put a 1 1/4" hole in my pots. Kal recommends the greenlee knockout punches, but would these from harbor freight work as well for a fraction of the cost...

Looking to borrow tool in Seattle area

Does anyone in the Seattle area have a Greenlee 1 1/4" standard knockout punch that you would be willing to let me borrow for a day or two? I'm trying to convert my HLT and boil kettle to electric using the kit from theelectricbrewery.com Thanks for looking and let me know if you'd be willing...

    Counterflow Wort Chiller (Seattle area)

Counterflow wort chiller for sale for beer making. It is made of 30 feet (I think) 3/8" copper tubing inside a red rubber hot water hose. All connections are soldered. I've used this multiple times and it works great, chills the wort to within a few degrees of the tap water. I've used a...

    Carb PSI vs Serving PSI

Basic question, should they be different? I'm having issued withy the keg of dopplebock that I kegged two weeks ago. I had the fridge set a 45 degrees and the PSI at 15. This should have given me about 2.5 volumes. I did the 'set and forget' method, no shaking. When I try to pull a glass now...

    CO2 blanket for secondary

I've got a lager that I plan on transferring to a secondary this weekend. Fermentation is complete and I am slightly worried about letting the beer sit in a carboy for an extended period of aging without a CO2 blanket for protection. Are there any good methods for creating a CO2 blanket in the...

    Recipe formulation - First attempt

Here is my first attempt at formulating my own recipe. I guess I would call it a chocolate Baltic porter. Any comments or tips are welcomed as I really have no idea what I'm doing in creating a recipe. If anyone has a question as to why I included a certain ingredient, I'll try to answer. I...

    Fermentation temperature

I finally got a temperature controller and am using my spare fridge as a fermentation chamber. My question is, when a recipe calls for a specific fermentation temperature, is that what the ambient temperature is or what the actual temperature is inside the fermentation vessel? Like if the...

Ranco ETC-111000. Where to put probe?

I just got my temperature controller and wired it up. I'm trying to turn the spare fridge in my garage into a fermentation chamber but I cannot figure out how to get the probe inside the fridge. Where can you thread the probe into the fridge without having to drill a hole in it?

    Getting rid of spent grains

Anyone have a good method of getting their grain from the mashtun into a garbage bag? I had the bright idea of fitting a garbage bag over the mashtun and then turning it over an having the grains fall into the bag...bad idea in retrospect. Garbage bag came loose and dumped wet, sticky grains...

    Fermentation Temperature

I don't even really know what I'm asking, maybe input/critique. So, I don't have a fermentation chamber to control temperatures and I am left with two options for fermentation. I can either ferment in my garage with an ambient temperature of 55-58* or in the house with an ambient temperature...

    First Boil Over

Well, just had my first boil over on my 9th AG, 12th overall. Had 7 gallons pre-boil in my 8 gallon kettle. Added the 60 min hops and POOF, that she blows. Wasn't quite quick enough with the spray bottle. Oh well. Luckily for me I've recently relocated the brewery to the garage.
