been brewing BIABS for about a year now and have considered the high gravity brewing company set up in 20 gallon with auto temp control. i still am questioning the heating element in the wort for the mash & boil...how does that not release metal ions into the wort? what about a herms set...

    reiterated mash....anyone, anyone?

article from a december 07 BYO about using the wort from a mash as mash water for the second or third mash to obtain wort capable of a high gravity beer without the addition of extracts. the article infers that the author used the tradition spray sparge brew technique. i was wondering why...

    brew pot insulation wrap

here's an idea that may be helpful to someone on a budget who needs to insulate their mash tun. one of those auto windshield heat reflectors made out of aluminumized bubble wrap, a ratty old fleece throw, velcro and some quick stritching will make a decent wrap. measure the circumference...

    red neck herms

here's an idea which I think shows some good use of basic items and a pump & a turkey fryer to brew small batches using Rhems tecnique. i bought a used coffee urn instead of a turkey fryer. the fryer was difficult to obtain used and coffee urn/makers were plentiful. was gathering...

this morning's test run with a SQ-14 burner and a 15 gallon fermtap pot, this is the pot sold by many vendors which has the encapsulated bottom; showed the evaporation rate with a simmering 1 hour boil to be 2 gallons out of the start volume of ten. also i noticed discolorations on the inside...
