BB Russian Imperial Stout explosion! haha

This isn't so much a problem but just a funny thing that happened last night. My wife got me a Brewers Best RIS kit for Christmas. I felt that the dry yeast pack might not be enough for a big beer like this so I made a starter with the dry yeast. Then I thought well hey I better double pitch...

    Another infection? Frustration!

So I put up a post a while ago about a pumpkin ale that I did that appeared to get a lacto infection. I have it bottle and it's a little sour but I think with age it will turn out good. This is a recipe from Austin Home brew which is a cider but with specialty grains and hops. It's been in...

I'm sorry for asking this...does this look infected?

I feel really bad asking this but I need opinions. This is a pumpkin ale that has been in the primary for 3 weeks. I just transfered it to the secondary two days ago and this picture is in the secondary. Everything was sanitized well. There are no off smells and no off flavors. I have a...

Reused yeast for the first time...not much happening

I had a american brown ale that I just bottled and I had an IPA kit so I figure I would save myself a little money and reuse the yeast since both kits call for the same yeast. So yesterday I bottle the brown ale and I scooped out enough of the cake to fill a 12 ounce jar.. I pitched the entire...

Thanks for the tips! Lessons learned from this forum

Well first off I have to thank this forum for existing and thank everyone for their knowledge they are sharing. I have my fourth 5 gallon batch in the fermenter now. The last two I did were so so (they were actually recipe kits) and the first one I did which I just threw together ingredients...

Importance of the water you use

What kind of water is everyone using? Most of my batches I've been cheap and used tap water that I have just boiled but I think that maybe one of my big problems at to why my beer's aren't turning out better. The one beer that I did use spring water in gallon jugs...it really was great...

Third 5 gallon batch...no bubbles or krausen

So last sunday I brewed an AK-47 Pale Ale Kit from Norther Brewer. I followed the directions perfectly. Now I never have much activity in my airlock but the last two batches I have had a strong foam at the top. With this one there is no foam at all and I can't see any bubbling really. There...

First time large batch IPA, maybe too watery

Well I have done a couple of Mr. Beer kits and I decided to step up to the plate of doing a 5 gallon batch. I got an IPA kit from Austin Homebrewing and followed the directions. I started it on Saturday. So far there is very little activity in the airlock which I know isn't the biggest...

    Hello all!

Hi, I've read some threads on this forum a few times and I figured I would join so I could learn some more. I started brewing this year and tried a few of the mass produced kits. I'm looking to learn and make the best beer I can.
