    Growler for bottling

I'm still not sure I buy it. Granted, people have had them break, glass breaks. But I usually fill one 12 oz cheapie plastic water bottle with each batch, the kind with the tiny white cap. I've never even had one of those fail.

    Growler for bottling

A hundred times huh. Caps aside, my understanding of when bottles break, it's usually in a closet or wherever they are stored for fermentation. Hundreds of people have had glass carboys break on them as well, yet hundreds of thousands still use them. It's up to the OP to decide I guess.

    DFH Rhizing Bines IPA

Had this tonight...awesome beer in my opinion. Too many 8% IPA's taste like syrup. This has a clean easy drinking appeal that I have to appreciate. Decent hop aroma without the long drawn out bitterness. I'll slam a Pliny with the best of them, but this was a deferent animal. A+ IMO

    Growler for bottling

I've bottled in a grolsch style growler with no problems. Never in a plain growler though so I cannot comment there.

    Another broken glass carboy thread

Strange, you were using the brush on the inside and the glass shattered inward. Wonder what caused the obvious pre-existing flaw. Glad you're okay.

    Help Me RDWHAHB

Something tells me you've already decided to dump it. I would not, but I've not had the experiences you had.

Do I really need a bottling bucket?

My only issue would be adding priming sugar, but if you're not using sugar I think you'll be fine.

California Keggle BK, HLT and recirculating IC for sale

I would be interested as well, but I'm in Northern California.

    Help: hydrometer stuck in carboy

Dude. You can't be dunking nuts in the fermenter...per SWMBO they are impossible to sanitize.

Well, they say that, but . . .

+1. Time clears beer, not racking.

Well, they say that, but . . .

I agree 100%. While I nearly always make a starter, it's far from being a must! Plenty of awesome beers have been brewed without a starter.

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

If I could do it again, I would use the 13/16" strut for the vertical pieces. For a 5 gallon system, I'd bet you could use it for the whole thing. Figure you wouldn't span more than 18-20 inches with it. Head to the hardware store and see if you can bend a 2' piece! In all seriousness...

    Help: hydrometer stuck in carboy

Welp, I would leave it, or go buy some long tweezers (not very expensive) and pull it out. Either way, no biggie brother.

    Hot Liquor Tank Recommendations

I use an 8 gal HLT, a 12 gal cooler and a 10 gal kettle. I fly sparge using a float valve in the tun.

    Leaving S-Shaped Airlock Empty?

Hmmm, I guess it might get loud enough to matter, but a mere fish tank is louder. Either way, I would not be afraid to run an empty airlock during fermentation. After a week or so, fill it with vodka, it will be mostly done bubbling by then.

    Leaving S-Shaped Airlock Empty?

Ummm, do all of you share a room with the fermenter?

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

One thing not mentioned is the amount of heat put out by the burners. The idea of putting a shelf or drawer anywhere on my stand is a no go. You would be better off putting a separate table somewhere behind you. I've had to add metal plates here and there just to shield certain pieces of...

Suggestions Wanted for Barleywine Recipe Made for LONG Aging

Unfortunately there are a ton of inconsistencies in brewing. I recently brewed a light lager using one smack pack and it turned out awesome. Everything I've read says to use a 3-4 liter starter or you'll have problems. For me it comes down to being "better safe than sorry...time permitting!"

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

Thanks man. Yeah, the quick disconnect is the only way to go. 3/8" is easy to find, the 1/2" takes a bit more looking.

    My Weldless Build Using Strut

Made it through our maiden voyage today. The 23 tip jet burners hooked up to 1/2" natural gas brought 6 gallons of cold hose water to a rolling boil in exactly 30 minutes. I used a quick disconnect at the house to prevent kids from being able to turn the gas on. The width is 15.25" wide, as...
