Irish Stout Fighting 69th Irish Dry Stout

Brewed this Memorial Day 2013 with my dad, getting him into the hobby. In honor of Memorial Day, I named this after the famous Irish battalion of the American Civil War. Anyways, enough history, here's the brew. I wanted something very simple, using traditional ingredients. The result was...

    APA recipe input needed

I've decided to try to make my own APA recipe. My goals for this beer are: 1) Create a Pale Ale that I can potentially become my "house beer." I get the impression that my BMC friends are most open to trying Pale Ales when they try craft beer, so I think this style would be good. 2) Get a...

    Low-preboil, need help!

Hi guys, Just gathered my wort and my pre-boil gravity is low. I needed around 1.034 and I have about 1.025. I plan on lengthening the vigor and length of my boil, but can I also add some corn sugar to my boil to increase fermentables? Will this change the flavor of my beer in the end?

Should my hard water affect my H20/grain ratio?

Hi all- I have pretty hard tap water, and I want to know if this will affect what my water/grain ratio should be. I haven't had time to get a full water report, as I just moved into my current town a week ago. Also, I want to brew on Monday, and the next nearest LHBS is about 1.5 hours away...

    Enough diastatic power?

I'm about to brew an all-grain Irish dry Stout. I've never used flaked barley before, so I'm wondering if my marris otter will have enough DP to convert it. Here's the grain bill. I usually shoot for a water/grain ratio of 1.5 qt./lb: 6 lbs. MO 2 lbs. Flaked Barley 14 oz. Roasted Barley...

    Big Brown Ale advice

Hi Guys, just looking for some input on a recipe I want to brew this weekend. It's only my 3rd all-grain batch and it's my first "original" recipe. I haven't brewed a darker beer before so I'm looking to get any input possible. Going for a brown ale with a slightly higher ABV for the...

    How does this recipe look?

My real question really is regarding the use of the chocolate malt. I definitely want it in there, just have never used it before so I'm looking for a little reassurance I guess. I don't want it to be overpowering, but I would like it to be noticeable. Thought about even addaing maybe a half...

    Favorite Hefe

Big fan of Weissbier here (hence the name), so I just wanted to see what everyone's favorite was? I'd have to say my top three are: 1. Franziskaner Hefe 2. Weihenstephaner Hefe 3. Berkshire Brewing Co. Hefe (summer seasonal that I just love for some reason whenver i'm in Boston)
