American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Honestly, I think they might use 12 pounds of marris otter. The website says "2 Row" but MO is a 2 row barley. It is a little darker in color, so to hit the 10 SRM mark you need to only use exactly 1 pound of UK Crystal 45, and with half pound carapils it comes to exactly 6.8% ABV. Using a pound...

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Just for fun, I emailed SN about what Lovibond caramel malt they use, and what SRM they target, and they got back to me!: "Thank you for reaching out to us and for expressing your interests in Sierra Nevada. We are very happy to hear of your pursuit to clone our Celebration Ale! After reaching...

American IPA Sierra Nevada Celebration Clone 2013

Ok, thanks. I don't have beersmith, so for now I just use this handy calculator, but when you check your SRM it gives two different numbers, which are always different by about three points, so just wanted to check. Also, 1.75 pounds of caramel malt seems like it would impart ALOT of caramel...

Your color is dead on, are you measuring that 13.4 in SRM Morey or Daniels?

    Breiss Ashburne Mild Malt

Thinking about using this as my base in an Irish Red in the nearish future, anybody have thoughts on this? I've never brewed with it.

    My holy hops recipe....

Looks great! Instead of the Perle Dry Hop, try an ounce of Columbus. Or just bump another ounce of one of the two hops you already dry hop with.

Irish Stout Fighting 69th Irish Dry Stout

I should note, this beer's actual OG was about 1.045 and the FG was 1.013.

Irish Stout Fighting 69th Irish Dry Stout

Brewed this Memorial Day 2013 with my dad, getting him into the hobby. In honor of Memorial Day, I named this after the famous Irish battalion of the American Civil War. Anyways, enough history, here's the brew. I wanted something very simple, using traditional ingredients. The result was...

    Fuller's London Porter Clone

Just using a rough calculator, you're looking at about: 7.5 lbs Marris Otter 1 lb Brown 0.8 lbs. Crystal 70 0.8 lbs. Chocolate 1.25 oz Fuggle (4.5% AA) at 60 0.5 oz. Fuggle (4.5% AA) at 15 The mash ratio, temp, etc. you will have to figure out based on your preferences/equipment...

    Albany Area Brewers

Yeah my hometown says Utica but I'm actually about 15 minutes east in Mohawk. I really appreciate your offer. For now, with a move coming in the near future anyway, I will hold off on taking on any new brew equipment. Again, though, thanks alot :mug:

    Albany Area Brewers

How did your store make out after all the flooding? Was going to drive out and buy some ingredients from you before all of this took place, but all my equipment except for my brew kettle got wrecked in our flooding :(

    Albany Area Brewers

I'm from the Utica-area, but I am in Albany frequently. Anyone know of any upcoming competitions other than the state fair? I've never tried one, but I think it would be fun.

    APA recipe input needed

In an effort to go for simplicity with this beer, I'll use one type of hop for now. I'm going to try it first with an all-cascade bill, and then all-chinook sometime down the road. Eventually I'll be sure to start blending once I have a strong idea about what I like to get out of each hop.

    APA recipe input needed

Thanks Yooper. With that advice, I think I'll cut the Victory down to 0.5 lbs, add the lb. of Munich back in, and drop the caramel 40 down to .75 lbs.

    APA recipe input needed

I've decided to try to make my own APA recipe. My goals for this beer are: 1) Create a Pale Ale that I can potentially become my "house beer." I get the impression that my BMC friends are most open to trying Pale Ales when they try craft beer, so I think this style would be good. 2) Get a...

    9 Grain Oatmeal Stout

This looks like a really fun recipe to try out, might have to give it a go soon.

    Low-preboil, need help!

Brewday ended well, but lo, I am an idiot sometimes. I think the reason my pre-boil gravity was so low is because I was taking hydro readings on very hot (~145F) wort....when I took readings of cooled down wort, it was actually just above my target pre-boil gravity. This was due to the fact...

    Low-preboil, need help!

Hi guys, Just gathered my wort and my pre-boil gravity is low. I needed around 1.034 and I have about 1.025. I plan on lengthening the vigor and length of my boil, but can I also add some corn sugar to my boil to increase fermentables? Will this change the flavor of my beer in the end?

Should my hard water affect my H20/grain ratio?

Could I also adjust my pH a little by doing 50/50 between packaged gallons of water and tap water?

Should my hard water affect my H20/grain ratio?

Thanks Yooper! Been a long-time lurker on this site and your wisdom has helped me indirectly many times, pleasure to finally have you answer one of MY questions haha. I'll go with a thinner mash for this one, somewhere in the 1.5-1.7 qt./lb. range. :mug:
