    I also want one!

    Chestfreezer combo

Has anybody attempted to split a chest freezer to half half frozen and half as a fermenter? I can't think of anyway that it would work without some pretty heavy modifications

    Obama is a homebrewer

There is already a much, MUCH more important petition to be signed: https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/enforce-women039s-equal-right-go-topless-public-wherever-men-have-privilege/C9pRPFGZ

    Obama is a homebrewer

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this thread doesn't devolve in such a way that it requires to be moved to the debate section. http://news.yahoo.com/obamas-tap-white-house-home-beer-023924580--finance.html

    Distribution Question

Ya, I was thinking more along the lines of being able to distribute them outside these states. The demand is there, not so much the supply I am guessing. Been good. Just got back to the States a few weeks ago. Been enjoying entirely too much beer ever since.

    Distribution Question

So I was reading somewhere that breweries have to apply on their license for each state that they plan on selling beer to. Is this true? If so does it make it illegal for them to go outside their "boundaries"? The whole distribution tree thing confuses me. Trying to figure out ways to get beers...

    I'm back

Been out the country/homebrew business for the last 3 years, but I think its time to jump back in. Need to get all new equipment and will probably start back at extract batches again. Think I'm going to try for smaller batches in the 2-3gallon range so I have a little bit more freedom to...

    African Hop Giveaway!!

So I've been AWOL from HBT recently, living in the mountains of Lesotho (look it up, its this whole country) in Africa brewing the traditional sorghum method for the last year and change and I just came across my first hops and am willing to give them away. I want to find an established member...

Football (Soccer) World Cup, South Africa 2010

I was kind of really banking on them only allowing the vevuzelas (I think I teach about that part of the female anatomy at my HIV/AIDS workshops) at South Africa games. I might have to bring ear plugs

Football (Soccer) World Cup, South Africa 2010

I'll do my best. My camera took a tumble yesterday morning and zoom is now iffy at best. I'll try to get it up and running better before then

Football (Soccer) World Cup, South Africa 2010

Even in Lesotho, the streets are crazy. I'm stuck down in Mokhotlong camptown because of the snow and my neighbors here were going nuts for the Bafana Bafana. I'm headed to Joburg for Brazil v Ivory Coast followed up by Germany v Ghana. Hope to get later for a round 2 game in Bloem as well.

    Rate this restaurant beer menu.

Agreed. For me, Italian is the least beer friendly meal. It is made for red wine, however.

Making a "Warm apple pie" drink (not beer but i need advice)

Flip top bottles would be good, or maybe some of the used glass liquor bottles with the crew on or cork caps.

    Trappist Lager

Tough to say. The yeast might be too overpowering for such a light grain bill and hop schedule. It would be worth a try I think (even if you brewed the lager and only fermented 1gallon with the Trappist yeast). I say go for it, but I love to experiment by subbing in Belgian yeasts in for...

First time brewer: in over my head?

I'm sure you will be fine. I'm assuming you are doing extract? He probably though you made the recipe up. Just be sure to make a starter.

    My Dad!

I know how you feel. Same thing when you cook some big fancy meal and you have people picking off food as it comes out of the oven. Its super annoying for some reason I can't really place a finger on. You do kind of look like a jerk though when you get upset about it. As long as he liked it...

What is the absolute best temperature for an ale?

Are you talking about for serving or fermentation? Either way it depends on the style and in the case of fermentation, also the the strain of yeast

    High FG Stuck High

Did you use a starter? Right now, I would vote for giving it a little swirl.

Faint green ring above water in fermentation lock, infection?

I'm not worried about the stuff in the airlock (but try to use starsan or cheap vodka in the future just to make sure) It is a little strange that you are getting that much gunk on top in secondary. How long was it in primary? What the gravity reading when you transferred? I'm not an experiment...
