    re hydrating dry yeast??

Not to hi-jack but what about doing a starter or a stirred starter for dry yeast? I always do a starter with liquid yeast and I will be getting dry yeast soon and it will be my first time. I know it may be unnecessary but I will be pitching it into a high gravity bear 1.080+ and I would rather...

    Using Oak cubes

I am looking to achieve a good oak flavor that you can notice but not so strong that it tastes like you are licking oak. I figured from the research I had done the American medium toast would be a good candidate especially for my first time trying oak.

    Using Oak cubes

I am going to be using 3 oz of cubes for a 5-5.5 gallon batch. I was considering using bourbon but at the very least steaming them and then using vodka. Would the bourbon add a lot of flavor on top of the wood if I let them soak for a month or 2, or would it be a subtle flavor on top of the...

    Using Oak cubes

So I am going to be brewing a Barleywine and I have always wanted to try using oak. I have really enjoyed drinking some oaked Barleywines but I have a few questions concerning it. I have read through a few of the threads on here about oak aging but I still have some questions 1st I have...

    Brewing with Lactose

Ok thanks for the info I guess I will stay away from lactose for now so as to not have any problems. It would seem maltodextrin could be used but I don't know how it would turn out and would rather not produce 5 gallons of something either undrinkable or just not that good. Thanks alot!

Stopping a Tragedy - Fixing Pin Hole leaks in Corny Kegs

To JDGator- Why would it matter if it was food grade? It is an exterior repair so it shouldn't really come in contact with the beer. I suppose if it were lower down and in constant contact with the beer that could be a concern.-Not arguing just pointing out that it shouldn't matter but maybe I...

    Brewing with Lactose

So I am looking to brew a milk stout and use lactose to add to the sweetness of the beer. My question is does putting lactose in the beer leave any lactose in the beer, or does it only add to the sweetness? The reason for my concern is I am lactose intolerant and don't want to have to take...

About to make my first keg purchase...advice

Idk about fitment but to do multiple kegs buy and manifold which makes shutting of different lines easy. Also every time you make a connection spray with star San to look for leaks. Another tip don't lay co2 bottles on their side. Lastly whenever you put a lid on a keg seat the lid by holding up...

    Good beer and hookah pairings?

I'm sure there are some hookah smokers on here so I was wondering what some of you have found to be good pairings? I have found my lager goes well with most from strawberry to watermelon and the only one I have found that doesn't work is mint and any beer. I have also found that hoppy beers...

    Hard time getting a boil

I recently got a Bayou burner and it was probably the best thing I have bought for brewing other than my copper IC. Now all that is left is to get a bigger pot because to answer your question from earlier it is better to do full boils because the water mixes better and there is less chance to...

    OxiClean & Cleaning Bottles/Equipment

I normally just guess how much to put in and normally have to rinse two or three times to get rid of all the oxi clean film that has been mentioned as slippery. I believe this means we are using too much. Also don't leave plastic soaking too long or it will discolor the plastic.
