Still making bad beer after 30+ batches.

I've looked over about half of the replies in this thread and I haven't seen anyone mention this specifically yet so I apologize if it has been brought up before, but how are you cleaning your boiling pot? Was it used for cooking food before it was used for brewing? Maybe there's something in there?

    Help! Infection???

I came across this today while bottling my beer. As a little background, this is a pale ale clocking in about 4.5% ABV. I let it ferment for 2 weeks and then dry hopped in the primary with hop pellets in a hop bag for an additional week. I soaked the hop bag in 2-week old Star San as I've...

Help Converting Extract to All Grain

Hey guys, i've been brewing all grain for a while now but I have this delicious pumpkin ale that I made back when I was doing extract plus steeping grains and I'm afraid to screw it up when converting to AG! The grain bill is 6lbs DME, 0.5 lbs C40, and 0.5 lbs Carapils. If I just convert the...

Who's planning a pumpkin brew this fall?

I too have a partial mash recipe that I did last year that was a huge hit with friends. They liked it more than all of the store-bought pumpkin ales that I gave to them in a taste test (Sam Adams, O'Fallon, Blue Moon). I'm now doing all-grain but I was too scared to convert it this year and...

    Pumpkin Ale question

My 5 gallon batch of pumpkin ale from last year used about 4.5 tsp total of various spices (cloves, allspice, cinnamon, and nutmeg) and had a good spice flavor too it. I'm guessing you may just need more next year. That was my first attempt at a pumpkin beer so I'm by no means an expert but...

    My first brew

I like to wait a minimum of 2 weeks, but usually do 3 just to be on the safe side, for primary fermentation before bottling or kegging. I bottled my first beer after only 10 days and it had a very "green" flavor to it. Since then, I've all of mine for 3 weeks and then in the bottle for 2-4...

Advice on traveling with full fermenter?

I currently have an ale that has been fermenting in a plastic bucket and I will be transferring it to a carboy in a couple days in order to minimize the head space for when I move next week. Will the car ride (traveling about 10 miles) and shaking oxidize the beer or should I be ok? Anyone...

So what are the cool kids dry hopping with these days?

I just made an IPA about 3 weeks ago and added an ounce each of Simcoe, Citra, and Amarillo at flameout and then dry-hopped with Citra and Simcoe. It smells absolutely amazing.

    Hopbursting - Just Late Addition?

I just brewed an IPA and added an ounce each of Amarillo, Simcoe, and Citra at flameout. When I racked to secondary 14 days later there was a ton of aroma in the beer. I may not have even needed to dry hop because the aroma was so strong but I did anyways since I had already purchased the leaf...

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

Thanks for the replies about the Simply. When I checked this morning I'm getting airlock activity every 2-4 seconds. Is this the proper time to add the Simply?

    Fruit Beer Lemon-Lime Hefe Weizen

I just brewed this yesterday and aimed at a 5 gallon final product so I have just under 5 gallons in my fermenter to make room for the Simply Raspberry Lemon. Would you recommend adjusting the amount of Simply poured into fermenter (at about 1.4L) or just add the whole 1.75L? I am making this...

    Faulty Regulator?

I have had a similar situation happen with the spike and then my CO2 tank emptying quickly so I'd like to subscribe to this thread. I had mine set to 10 and it stayed there for a few days and then jumped up to 20 and my CO2 tank had lost a lot of gas, also on a brand new tank.

    Keg Leak, help!

It is my CO2 tank that is going down, I have had about 5 or so completely drain on me with two different kegs and about 4 batches of beer. I'm assuming the temperature has changed anywhere from 20-30 degrees on a daily basis inside the garage so I'd assume the fridge may be taking some temp...

    CO2 leak, help!

Yeah both my tank and regulator are brand new and I've got the rubber gasket installed as well. Most of the fittings came wrapped in teflon tape and I've wrapped the others that originally weren't and still no luck. I like the idea of submerging it all in water, I may have to give that a try.

    CO2 leak, help!

thanks for the quick response, it is definitely a leak as the gauge goes down to 0 and the tank has lost all its weight. It is such a slow leak that I'm not able to find where it is coming from. It has also happened with 2 different kegs so I'm beginning to think that it could be the regulator...

    CO2 leak, help!

Guys, I have had a keg leak for some time now and am getting rather frustrated. I have replaced just about all of the moving parts on the keg, have sprayed all of the connection areas with Star San and have not been able to discover where the leak is coming from. A little about my setup, I...

Any worse beer destination than Mexico?

I went to Jamaica last year and there were only 2 light lagers available... Red Stripe and another that was not very good. At least water was warm and the beer wasn't Bud Light.

    Heat Exchanger in Ice Bath?

Thanks everyone! I have a stainless steel immersion chiller that I will set in an ice bath to chill the water before it goes into the plated heat exchanger.
