    St. Louis stops?

The suburb of Kirkwood has the Kirkwood Station brewery. They are usually pouring 7 or 8 different beers and have good food til 11:00p daily. You can also catch a band there about 5 day/week. There is Morgan Street brewery on Laclede's Landing downtown north of the Arch, though I haven't...

    St. Louis stops?

50 miles South on US 63 from Rolla MO, Houston is a small town, in the Ozark Foothills. There is a micro brewery about 5 miles out of town, off MO hwy 17 called Piney River Brewery. The beer is available in 16 oz cans at many of the regional liquor stores, the brewery is open for visitors on...

    Dry hopping a must?

:mug: Saw something recently that said it was a good idea to put the hops in a cheesecloth bag or grain bag and weight the bag so that the hops sink to the bottom of the fermenter. I hadn't tried that yet. Any thoughts or comments?

Bottled this just today, in 12 oz bottles. It smells delightful, got a small taste of it, and has good coffee flavor. Can't wait for December, waiting is the hardest part.

Yikes, I didn't completely close Carboy!

 [FONT="Century Gothic"]Ok, so here's the thing. I had the sparged, cooled wort in the carboy, topped up to 5 gallons, and had just added the yeast when my in-laws showed up to drive us to the ball game last night. So I slapped the lid on, took the carboy downstairs into the cool...

    Brew pots

Right, I caught on to that thru trial and stupid error, aka not reading my Papazian thoroughly. My issue is that it takes quite a bit of time after steeping the grain at the recommended temp to return the wort to a full boil so I can stir in Malt extract. I didn't explain that I do extract...

    Brew pots

I have been using a 19 qt brew pot, I think it is aluminum, it's very light weight. It seems to take a while to get water to boiling, sometimes about 20 or more minutes. Then if I am steeping grains it takes another while to get the wort back up to boiling. So, I think I may sometimes be...

What tool/device/gadget do you wish you could find for brewing?

:)So my wife says Necessity is the Mother of Invention.. Been looking for a way to invert a carboy for drying, and got a great suggestion on this thread. Then when I was cleaning up our laundry room I found a large nylon net bag with draw string. It was just the right size for my carboy which...

Fermentation can take 24 to 72 hrs to show visible signs.

So yeah, my airlock isn't bubbling. And it's been 3 1/2 days, so I used a small flashlight to check thru the airlock hole in the top and there is a krausen and it looks fairly active. So I guess when I popped in the airlock it probably came loose.:o Anyway I guess I probably won't see any...

What tool/device/gadget do you wish you could find for brewing?

I want a single post on a base that is tall enough to invert my glass carboy over for drying. If this is already available, point me in that direction. If the post could be hollow with air holes to permit hooking up a blow dryer for quicker drying, even better.

    brewing a wheat with citrus

So the Citrus Wheat is finished and my Daughter loves it. She calls it SnickleFritz Wheat. It has a really great citrus flavor, more lemony than Orange. It's supposed to be for her birthday but it's so good we may have to make another batch by August.
