    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Yeah, I was wondering about how to split a 5 gallon kit as well. Are all the grains mixed up in one bag? I would be interested to try it because I have to buy 1 and .5 lb amounts and end up with more than i need.

brooklyn brew shop book of recipes

If you already know about brewing basics or have the means to do your own research without getting intimidated, then you won't care for the book. If you're a total n00b though, it's a decent starting point, especially if you don't mind staying small. They leave out a lot of information, so I...

brooklyn brew shop book of recipes

I've done a bunch of recipes as well as kits from BBS. I really like them! So far I've done: Everyday IPA, Grapefruit Honey Ale, Coffee & Donut Stout, Jalapeno Saison Mild, Simcoe IPA, Blackberry Red Ale, Peach Cobbler Ale. I've only done the one gallon batch size though. They have a FB page...

Why do I continue to have inconsistent carbonation?

I have only cold crashed once, and it was the only batch that did not carbonate properly, however that issue I attribute to oils from coffee. Cold crashing *should* leave enough yeast in suspension not to cause a problem, but it's one of the variables that stood out to me. I don't cool my sugar...

Why do I continue to have inconsistent carbonation?

Jeff, I also brew one gallon batches. My thoughts from reading your posts are: 1) try not cold crashing, 2) hot rinse your bottles after the B Brite soak (also, no mention of a bottle brush... you could be leaving some residual B Brite or other things in your bottles), 3) rack into a container...

    1 Gallon Beer Recipes

Since there seem to be people who enjoy brewing small batches, I was wondering if anyone would like to post their tried and true 1 gallon recipes. I started with kits and have moved on to recipes from a book, but I hope to start making my own recipes soon. I would love for people to post their...

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

I reused some Nottingham open 9 days ago. It's working! I was slightly worried though, as I am with every brew.

    1-Gallon Brewers UNITE!

Honestly, I've only saved it, not reused it. I'll let you know soon.

I use a mesh strainer and a (sanitized) teaspoon to stir up the sediment so the wort flows into the jug.

    Small SMaSH recipes

I am pretty new to brewing and have been doing one gallon brews from kits. Just brewed my first recipe from a book specifically for one gallon batches. I am thinking of making a Session SMaSH soon. What I did was approximate my recipe and put it into Brewtarget. I then adjusted to get the right...

Brooklyn Brew Shop Everyday IPA Kit Tips

Not sure. I don't think they label the yeast in their kits. In the book they recommend Safale S-05 for the Everyday IPA and Safale S-04 for the Grapefruit Honey Ale. I think the krausen was caused by the added honey and Belgian candi sugar. Incidentally, I've started a Tumblr page about my one...

Blake, I have my Grapefruit Honey Ale fermenting right now. Hell of a krausen the first day!

Brooklyn Brew Shop Everyday IPA Kit Tips

Another thing that could lead to overcarbing is bottling before primary is done. I waited three full weeks before bottling.

Brooklyn Brew Shop Everyday IPA Kit Tips

jnalpak - I used the honey called for in the recipe, but I measure my 3 tbsp. a little "under" because I was worried about overcarbing. I put my honey and water in a glass measuring cup and microwaved it. I mixed it up really well and poured it into the bottom of the pot I was using to bottle. I...
