    Conditioning is everything.

I am still pretty new to home brewing and I haven't brewed a beer in 5 months or so. Back when I was brewing heavily, I brewed a cream ale, an autumn ale and a Fat Tire clone. I conditioned them for three weeks or so before trying each one, and they were not too bad. I really haven't drank...

Beer in fermenter since June 7... Too long?

I brewed a batch of beer on June 7. Gravity was still too high after 2 weeks, so I let it ride. Here it is now August 9, and I haven't checked it since. Has it been on the yeast cake too long, or will it probably be ok to bottle?

    Drinking too much homebrew

Until last night I had never had more than 3 homebrews in one sitting. Last night I probably had a dozen or so cream ales. Right before I went to bed, I had the raging Sh*ts. Horrible lol, I was sweating and everything. Same thing when I woke up this morning. I poured the beer out of the...

    Homebrew kit reviews: My experiences.

My first two brews were both kits from Midwest Supplies. My first was Liberty Cream Ale, and my 2nd was Midwest's Autumn Amber ale. The Cream Ale has been in bottles for 6 weeks and the Autumn ale as been in bottles for 4 weeks. These were both extract kits. The cream ale really hasn't...

Noob needs help with calculating efficiency

Brewed my first AG BIAB batch tonight. Biermuncher's cream of 3 crops final volume: 5.5 gallons 6 lbs 2 row 2 lbs flaked corn approx. 1 lb minute rice. My kettle wasn't large enough to do no sparge so I dunk sparged in 2.5 gallons of water after mash. Original volume was 5.5...

BIAB dunk sparging in fermenting bucket

I'm going to be doing my 1st all grain/BIAB brew this weekend. It will be a 5 gallon batch and my pot is not large enough to do a full boil with no sparge. I was planning on using one of my fermenting buckets to dunk sparge in. My question is: Will pouring 170 degree water in my bucket...

    Austin extract fat tire clone

I brewed this beer tonight. I opted for the 1% alcohol boost and ended up with an OG of 1.062. The instructions didn't say what the OG or FG should be. Has anyone else brewed this that can give me an idea of OG and FG should be?

Sediment, and other gunk when bottling..

I just bottled my second batch (Midwest's Autumn Amber ale). My first batch was Midwest's Liberty Cream ale, I used US-05 yeast for both batches and I used irish moss on both batches with 15 minutes left in the boil. when racking to the bottling bucket on both batches, I left close to a gallon...

    1st homebrew..Success!

I brewed Midwest's Liberty Cream Ale for my first batch. Bottled it only a little over a week ago. I posted a thread a week ago or so about how I only bottled a little over 4 gallons worth because of sediment, but used 5 oz of priming sugar. I put one in the fridge so I could sample one...

Volume for steeping grains in extract kit

I read somewhere on here awhile back that when doing a full boil, you don't need to steep the grains in the full volume of water. I steeped the grains in the full volume of water on my first 2 batches. Is there a reason for not steeping in the full volume? The reason I steeped at full...

Bottled my first batch tonight... Some questions.

I bottled my first batch tonight. Midwest's Liberty Cream Ale. I boiled 5 oz. of dextrose in 1 cup of water and cooled to room temp. put it in the bottom of my sanitized bottling bucket, and siphoned the beer from the primary fermenter into the bottling bucket. I didn't wait a full 3 weeks...

    I'm 2 for 2!!

I brewed my first batch a week and a half ago and broke a hydrometer. Tonight I brewed my 2nd batch and broke another hydrometer. This time before I was able to take an OG reading. Grrr! Tonight I brewed Midwest's Autumn Amber Ale. I don't have a wort chiller and it took around 40...

A couple of questions after brewing for first time.

I brewed my first batch a couple of weeks ago and I am going to try to brew again tonight. My first batch was a Liberty Cream Ale Midwest kit. Tonight I'm brewing another midwest kit: Autumn Amber ale. After my first brew I noticed that the hops really make a mess in the wort after they...

    First brew. Concerned about OG

Hi all. I brewed my first batch ever today. Midwest supplies' Liberty Cream Ale. I wanted to do a full boil so started boil at 6 gallons. The wort didn't quite boil down to 5 gallons, probably like 5.5 gallons. Anyway, the OG was 1.038. Estimated OG was 1.042 -1.046 Not a big deal right...

    Newb here

Hi everyone. I got a mr beer kit awhile back. I thought it would be fun and a good way to learn a little about brewing. A month later I was obsessed, and bought the midwest beginner kit off of groupon. It arrived yesterday, and I placed another order last night for some additional equipment...
