Cooler Mash Tun Question (size, shape, stainless steel braid)

Got it! Thanks Sherpa! Overcome one obstacle, now I hit another. The site where I got my parts list and assembly instructions seems to be down. Anyone happen to recall this one? http://www.martykraft.com/mlt.html

No Fermentation - What To Do?

He checked it the day after and there was nothing going on. So if it went fast, it REALLY went fast. We'll check the gravity today and see what we got. I'll keep you posted. Thanks a lot for the tips. Cheers.

No Fermentation - What To Do?

That we'll have to check when I go there in a little while. I'll get back to you guys later tonight with that. If it's lower, obviously it is fermenting to some degree. Should he just leave it be? Or is there a way to jump-start it? If it's dead in the water, what then?

No Fermentation - What To Do?

Hey guys. No worries on my third batch, as it's clearing nicely in secondary right now, but I gave my dad a hand with his first batch last week, and he says he's had no fermentation happening all week. This is the exact kid and ingredients we used. The only thing I can think is that we...

    Fermentation Temperature Question

Hm... Maybe I'll move the bucket upstairs for the last few days of primary. I just hope the temp didn't gimp the batch. I swear every time I try to get this damn IPA nailed something goes wrong.

    Fermentation Temperature Question

Powdered kind, 11.5 grams top fermenting ale yeast. Pretty sure this is the one - http://www.nthomebrew.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=41_13_43&products_id=1293 That's the store where I get all my stuff, and I'm almost positive that's what I picked up.

    Fermentation Temperature Question

Hey guys, I'm fermenting my third batch right now in the basement. It's an IPA of course, top fermenting ale yeast. My first two batches were done in the summer and fall, and I had a nice stable temperature in the mid to high 60s in my basement. Well, now it's winter, and the temperature is...

Been a While Guys - Batch 3 on the Stove!

Brew went great! The new gear kettle was excellent. I'm so excited to brew more often now that I have proper equipment. Fermenting nicely in my basement. I'll be racking to secondary (feels pretty cool to say that!) as soon as it's done. I'll be checking in on it this weekend. Now onto dry...

Been a While Guys - Batch 3 on the Stove!

Hey again guys. Hope all of your holidays were safe and festive. Needless to say, Santa brought me some new brewing toys! A 30 qt. stainless steel brew kettle and a new 5 gallon glass carboy! So, today was the day for my third batch, and the first time I'm using the new gear. I bought a...

The Serious Business IPA - Questions, Concerns

So do you think this batch is officially shot, or will it settle with a little time? Got me kind of nervous now. :(

The Serious Business IPA - Questions, Concerns

I did a 3 week fermentation, all in a primary, with the oak chips in the whole time.

The Serious Business IPA - Questions, Concerns

Fermentation never got above 70. My house is nice and cool. I think it's the oak chips as well. But again, the brew was also not without its problems. Thanks for the tips. I'll see what I have in a week or two I guess. But next time, I think I'm going to skip the oak chips.

when to stir and when not to stir

I stir the batch thoroughly when adding extract, as you really want that to dissolve properly and avoid burning. Also, I stir in when adding hops. And then just a general stir every 15 minutes or so, just to keep things flowing. I don't know if it helps or hurts, but I make sure my spoon is...

The Serious Business IPA - Questions, Concerns

Hey guys. Well, it's been 2 weeks since bottling the "Serious Business IPA" (which I posted about here) and I had to try one to see how things went. It's not bad. But it's really not what I was going for at all. Granted, it's still a week early, according to the 1-2-3 method. But I think...
