Just opened my first beer from my first batch

Honey Brown Ale. Been in the bottles only 12 days but i just HAD to try one. If you can remember, I was a bit worried after tasting the wort and post fermentation, where I let it sit in the fermenter for 4 weeks (don't use a secondary....yet!) So I chilled her down, and poured into a nice...

Do u have to make a starter if u use liquid yeast??

I was wondering this. I have always used dry yeast or the smack pack from NB. Was thinking about going with the best liquid yeast I can for my next batch. So can you just pour liquid yeast right into the wort or do u have to make a starter with it first?? Just curious.... Thanks!

    AHB, kits too expensive???

Looking at getting another ingredient kit for my next batch. I have noticed AHB is on the VERY high scale of the price range for kits against MANY other online companies. ALSO, they always make you buy seperate yeast at a pretty expensive upgrade cost. They also charge extra to include ice...

Anyone brewed a Russian Imperial Stout Brewer's Best kit????

Can get that online for around $31, which is pretty cheap for that style. Has anyone brewed this from them?? Did it turn out well??? Any comments on Brewer's Best kits in general??? Notice most don't give you a yeast option upgrade, so we don't like that! Thanks.

    Are hops bags essentiall useless??

Just finished a honey brown ale, and a guy I buy supplies from told me not to even bother with hops bags, just throw em right in. I did that, and they broke down almost completely. Didn't have ANY problem getting any hops during racking from the fermenter. So i say he suggestion was accurate...

Ok, so how the heck do I make my own labels??

Do i need special software??? I don't have photoshop currently. I think I want to call my little home brewery "Beaver Creek Brewery" with a picture of a beaver on it....should be funny. Then, just change the name and info on it as I brew different batches. So what do i need to make...

And it was actually 5 1/2 gallons in the fermenter. Honey nut ale. Hope this doesn't mean i filled the bottles too full!! Was thinking I should get 56-57 bottles out of it.

Well, we have been in the primary one month now.

Been EXTREMELY busy lately. Haven't had time to bottle, going to do so tomorrow. Anywho, the beer sat in the fermenter about 4 weeks, was done fermenting in about 7 days. Think this will be any sort of problem??? It is a honey brown ale.

Beer gets better with age....but how bout with 10 YEARS of aging???

The coolest thing happened to me today. My grandfather died about 6 months ago and today I went with parents to help them clean some stuff out of his house. I happen to look in a top kitchen cupboard, and what do i find???? I find about 6 bottles of "holiday ale" that my brother home brewed...

    Starting gravity too low!?!?

First batch was a honey brown ale. Did full boil with the full amount of LME. Target initial gravity was suppose to be around 1.050. I read it at 1.031. Is this bad?? What could have caused it to read so low??? Not enuf wort in the flask?? too much water or boil too long?? I am...

Beer that sits in fermenter after fermentation complete....good, bad, or indifferent?

Was wondering about this. Let's say your fermentation is done after 5-7 days, but u let it sit in the fermenter another 7 to 10 days. (not using a secondary) Is this better, worse, or doesn't matter either way for the overall product?? I would think it would be better to let it sit a...

Priming sugar or coopers carbonation drops??

Am a noob, although did a batch a few years ago and noticed it was FAR from highly carbonated. Well, i was wondering, i have my priming sugar in hand but noticed coopers sells these carbonation drops, just put one in each bottle and you are ready to go. I am imagining maybe this is a better...
