What is the definition of Beer?

I read that a Scottish company came out and broke their last years record of ABV of 65% for a beer they call "snake venom". last year, the same company had a beer at 60% ABV or 120 proof (which is stronger than most Whiskey's off the shelf at your liquor store). Sam Adams came out with...

What I did for beer today

I ordered out a false bottom for my 55 Gallon Lauter tank. Cost $273 so I spent the day looking for coupons for jaybirds falso bottoms. I missed Black Friday but figured there had to be a discount somewhere. Oh well, still worth the money at any price.

NEW: worlds strongest beer @ 65% abv from scotland

I tried some of the "world's strongest beer" according to the Guinness book of world records. Didn't seem so special to me, So I cranked up "old Nellie" to see if I could beat it. Unfortunately, it came in at 94.5% ABV and 189 proof. I could barely taste the hops in it and I had to dilute it...

We tried 48 year old beer today.

Sam Adam's Millium and it's Utopia is barrel aged then racked into bottles for a target of 25 years aging in the bottle. Some old records I dug up out of the 1850's indicate that the optimum for aging beer was around 7 years and with anything over 2 years being "really mellow" I am not sure...

What has two thumbs and is going pro?

Happy are those who dream dreams and are willing to pay the price to make those dreams come true. You stuck it through and made it happen. My hat is off to you. Congradulations!!!

    Shipping Beer

If you think I am making this up, go to the ATT site and look up the requirements for a simple beer lable.

    Shipping Beer

Listen Guys, you are not taking this seriously. Remember, in order to ship this stuff, you have to have an EPA approval and it must be shipped in a HAZ MAT container approved by the EPA. After you get EPA approval, make sure that the shipping company you use clearly marks on the side of their...

    A letter from a 1852 English Homebrewer

I thought it was kind of interesting that they did things pretty similar to what we do a hundred and sixty years later. Also interesting that he shared his brew no matter which class and freely discussed information about his brew with others. I think the only reason the home brew phenomenon...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you go to the mail box every day for a week waiting for a book on Home Brew to come in and when it comes in, you realized you already bought it and read it last month.

    A letter from a 1852 English Homebrewer

There was a Man in this Country that brewed for a Gentleman constantly after a Very precise Method, and that was, as soon as he had put over all his first Copper of water and mash'd it some time, he would directly let the Cock run a small stream and presently put some fresh Malt on the...

    Bobby_M Sight Gauge

I purchased three (3) special order (for 55 gallon barrels) and came in perfect. Packaging and shipping great. Couldn't think of a nicer guy to do business with. This would be the first guy I would go to get my sight glass from. Nice Job Bobby!!!!

    Whiskey Barrel Kegorator

One other quick comment, the staves will dry out without any fluid in them. The hoops will losen up and fall down. You can dry out a barrel for up to 2 years then apply a ring hoop stretcher with 120 lbs of torgue and re-attach. Or you can simply drill holes in the hoop and put wood screws in...

    Whiskey Barrel Kegorator

You did a fantastic build. You could make a fortune selling those on Craigslist. I built one before I realized that the barrel could be used for fermenting Barley Wine. I used wine barrels instead of Whiskey Barrels but I have heard many use Bourbon barrel for the unique and flavorable taste...

Building permits for a dedicated brewing room - hints?

I am not sure about Canada, but in Arizona, it's all about the building permit fee's charged by both the State and City. The only requirement I had was to submit a detailed drawing of the floor plan. I went Commercial, so it was expected for a hood to be over the top of the brewing equipment...

My First Attempt at a Single Tier Brew Stand

You did a great job and I am certainly not one to offer critism when one builds a work of Art. But, I think you should put a wing or cover over the top of your pumps to keep water from dropping on top of them from a lose hose or a mistake that is bound to happen sooner or later. I see Bobby M...

My First Attempt at a Single Tier Brew Stand

The panel is obscene. I think that will be the most requested info on this thread and; 1) How did you build it? 2) Where did you get the parts from 3) Do you have a wiring diagram for it? 4) Do you have a step by step build or are you going to start a thread? 5) Where are the switches for...

Converting from Home Brewer to Commercial Brewer

The pressure on the grain gets crazy when you start to get above a hundred pounds. False bottoms tend to clog. Sparge goes down to a trickle. Proper equipment on full grain usually comes in around 90-92% efficiency so no sugar needed unless your doing something really creative with brown...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When you are teaching the cops how to brew after they came over from a complaint from a neighbor that you were running a meth lab.
