    Paulasaurus's Hops Garden

Beautiful! You sir, have quite the green thumb. I've had some big crowns before, but lost everything one year (15 varieties! one crown of each) when a fungal pathogen came through and slaughtered my babies..

First AG - Newly Built Cooler Mash Tun (Wheat Efficiency?)

Hi all, following this hello is a simple note or two about my first AG experience, and then a procedure from yesterdays brew, and a question about AG mashing. Thanks for clicking. After about 9 or 10 brews using mostly extract, but a fair bit of grain, I have decided to invest in a basic...

    Double IPA Recipe Check, Please

Why no lengthier (60 or 45 min) bittering hops?

Certainly sounds like an IPA to me.

edges of lower leaves are brown

Usually a nutrient imbalance, possible nitrogen burn or deficiency. Any of the major N,P,K, macronutrients as well as S,C, or Mg can cause this. Very hard to nail down plant issues visually. Good luck though.

    thinking cider

I literally pour 2 or 3 gallons of apple juice into my fermenter, non-preserved stuff, and then add (beer) yeast. I ferment for 5 days, then bottle and condition for 2 weeks. My final product is indeed very dry, properly carbed, and varies in color dependent on the juice used. The tastes vary as...

    dry hopping worry

Just make sure the beers are cold, and they get poured into glasses when you open them, like any good beer should be. The yeast and trub sediment in the bottoms of the bottle won't move if you pour cold. Enjoy.

    Neighbors and Landlord

Remove a couple of the shoots, so the plant can focus all of it's energy on a couple of the more vigorous shoots. 3-5 Shoots per rhizome should be good. Also, it will allow the underground rhizome system to grow so maybe next year you'll have another set of shoots a foot or so from the initial...

Sucker Punch Stout (Black Eye Brew)

I was at a party this weekend, and as the night wound towards the end I had a sort of scuffle with a fella who wasn't treating a girl very well. Ended up telling him he needed to relax and apologize to the girl, we started exchanging some pushes before someone got in between us and stopped it...

Spent Grain Mashed again for Yeast Starter

I'm not worried about any tannins or off flavors, I just want to propagate yeast, and will clean them from there. Any fermented liquid will just be poured off the yeast cake and then the yeast will be washed. @PassedPawn how do you produce the wort from the spent grains without the second mash...

Spent Grain Mashed again for Yeast Starter

Just a note- I mashed each of the 5 pounds of 'spent grains' with 1.25 gallons of water, then boiled and reduced to roughly 1.6 Liters (2 liter Erlenmeyer Flasks).

Spent Grain Mashed again for Yeast Starter

I brewed today, first day of spring break, and had 10lbs of spent grain at the end of the brew. After 4 hours I guess I hadn't had enough torture :cross: so I decided to do a little experiment. Basically I just mashed the spent grains 5 pounds at a time, directly in water in a boil kettle, 4...

    Dry Hopping Sanitation

Hello All, Pretty new to the game still, having brewed a couple 5 gallon batches and a couple 2.5 gallon half batches, and so far have not been completely thrilled with the hop profile results. Besides adding more hops to the boil, I want to dry hop a couple of my next batches. Have a...
