Most annoying response when you tell someone you're a homebrewer?

"You're gonna go blind!" "Can't that kill you?"

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Just cracked open my 10lbs of sugar apfelwein and I have to say that it is actually pretty good. Granted it is much sweeter than the regular 2lbs of sugar but that is not such a bad thing. All in all I will probably end up pouring half of the 6 gallon batch into another 6.5 gallon carboy and...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Well my old apfelwein was great with 4 lbs of sugar. So good in fact that I just started a bacth a week ago with 9 lbs!!! No joke!! I used 9 lbs cane sugar, 5.5 gallons apple juice and 3 tablespoons yeast nutrient and the fermentation sounds like an aquarium pump (i added the yeast nutrient...

In my opinion the D47 was fruitier but that is just my opinion. I add applejuice concentrate to all my apfelwein but I still think the different yeasts leave more apple flavor.

How many gallons of EdWort's Apfelwein have been made?

    25101 + 18 = 25119 (3 6gal carboys) great stuff!!

    Apfelwein

Dude, I did almost the same thing and the girlfriend was involved. I put in 2lbs of corn sugar then she put in 2lbs of corn sugar. I drank it 4 months later and it was fantastic and really strong, it had a heat behind it. I used ec1118. Next stop... SIX pounds of sugar!!! (j/K)

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Ok, so I tasted my 4lbs of sugar apfelwein and it was dry with ec1118. Not sweet at all. It certainly got me and the gf drunk as heck though but no hangover at all. I am going to make another batch with 6 or 8 pounds of sugar and see what happens. I want to push the ec1118 to it's 18abv...

    Recommendations for Muscadine Ale

i would skip the beer and make mead with them. i am from mississippi and muscadines are fantastic by themselves. ofcourse you know this too but i thought i would add my two cents since i don't have a good ale recipe for them. 3 gallon bags of muscadines sounds really great! enjoy!

Edworts Apelwein, has anyone tried adding fruit or berries?

I have only put in finely grated ginger root, finely grated lemon peel from half a lemon (just the yellow outer skin with almost no white) and the strained juice from two medium lemons. I also threw in a cinnamon stick and about 10 cloves. I loved it right until it turned into vinegar on the 7th...

This is what I was hoping. I am hoping that the 1118 will take care of the problem for me. If it tastes too alcoholic I will just cut it with apple juice. I will post taste results in mid October

Thanks. I will go out and buy nutrient and energizer. I haven't used those things before but I guess now is about time.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

About a week ago I made some Apfelwein with 4lbs of sugar instead of two. It was an accident. I am using EC1118 yeast. Can anyone tell me if the EC1118 can power through 4lbs of sugar in a 5 gallon carboy before reaching its alcohol tolerance or will I end up with super sugary, undrinkable...

    2 kinds of yeast...

I used the search function so I am breathing life back into a 3 years old thread... sorry if that is not cool. I made Ed Wort's Apfelwein but I accidentally added 4lbs of sugar instead of the 2lbs the recipe asks for. Classic case of too many cooks spoil the soup, my gf and I were doing...

I used Lalvin 71b-1122 and I got airlock bubbles after 6 hours. I also accidentally put my 3 gallon bottle in an area of my house that vibrates due to the water heater. I know that doesn't make a difference but just saying. I'm a noobie.

3 weeks! WOW! I am getting excited. I hate waiting. May I ask, at 3 weeks had your yeast stopped working yet or were they still going? Also, sorry I can't answer your OG question. This is my first batch and I have no idea how to calculate that. To show you how "systematic" I am, I made my 3...
