    Anyone have success with citra?

I used the New Posts tab and didn't realize this was in the Hop Growing section. Disregard my previous post.

    Anyone have success with citra?

My LHBS always has Citra so I have no worries on my end. I've used Citra with Amarillo and Simcoe twice with great results. I love Citra!

    Kids and brewing

My 10 year old helps me. She likes to help me bottle. Last time she filled all the bottles while I capped. The last three brew days I've made her stir the mash while I dough in. She's a big help and I always explain the process to her. As for my toddler (17 months) I have no issues with...

    Michigan & Wisconsin Travel

If you go North around Lake Mendota instead of South in Madison you'll be able to stop at Ale Asylum. Probably wouldn't add too much time and going through town to jump back on 12 you'll also be able to stop at the Vintage. The Vintage is right next to the 12 on ramp. Sincerely biased...

Sounds like you've had some good Wisconsin Beers! You won't have the opportunity to try many good craft beers at Summerfest unless they've changed since I've been there last. Lakefront has a new strong ale release called Bridge Burner. Try some if you can find it.

Highly recommend stopping at Ale Asylum in Madison. Also, Great Dane, Vintage, and Capital Brewery are all great.

    Bomber bottle tree?

I use a bottle tree with my bombers when I wash and dry them. No problems. When I bottle I spray my dishwasher with star san. Dip my bottles in star San for a min or so and store in he dishwasher. I do this because I bottle over the dishwasher. Easy access to bottles and easy clean up.

    Man, I love Apfelwein

I must be in the minority but mine was great flat at two months and carved at 2.5 mo. Family and friends agree that it tastes great. It would suck to have to wait over a year for it to be great. Maybe my palate isn't as refined as others. One mans.....

    Russian River Brewing Sucks

I understand the concern for the farmers here but the companies did invest billions into these products and should have some right to protect their investment. If they didn't make money they wouldn't be selling them. The farmers have the option of growing non-gmo and thus growing their own...

    Russian River Brewing Sucks

Here is a report by the USDA looking into 10 years of GMOs. USDA shouldn't have conflicts of interest. There are also a bunch of references therein that could be useful. I've only skimmed the report but I'll read it later. Got a tee time to make now...

    Russian River Brewing Sucks

Usually the simplest answer is the correct answer. Usually farmers plant what is cheapest and yields the most. A lot of the anti-GMO people are (surprise surprise) organic agriculture proponents. The report you linked to was written by someone at The Organic Center. Literally speaking...

    Russian River Brewing Sucks

Why would farmers choose to use gmo crops if they could grow non-gmo crops cheaper because they use less herbicide, fertilizer, and pesticides? Why aren't all farmers organic if they can grow just as much as non-organic and can do it cheaper? There is a market for seeds. Monsanto doesn't...

    Russian River Brewing Sucks

I work in the barley and malt industry on the R&D side. Our stakeholders are the American Malting Barley Association (AMBA) and other large breweries. I know AMBA does not recommend any variety of barley that is GMO. I don't know of any GMO barley that is available commercially. I mentioned...

    Back to square one!! NOO!!!

RDWHAHB. My second all grain and first recipe smelled and tasted sour to me at gravity reading. I was freaking out! Posted here, talked to my LHBS and even had my non-beer drinking wife taste and smell it. It turns out I was just paranoid. Thought I had an infection but after 2 weeks in the...
