    Wyeast 3787 (Westmalle) Dry Alternative?

Been out of brewing for awhile and getting back to it on a small scale. I always enjoyed simple all pils malt patersbier fermented with 3787. Wondering if anyone has info on if any of the dry Belgian strains are similar. Searched but couldn't find anything definitive.

    Stupid Brewing Tricks

Had a nearly flawless brew day, making 10 gallons of Hefeweizen with the Weyermann floor malted wheat and pils. Great efficiency, hit target volume - everything went as plan, protein rest everything great. Until I tasted the wort.... hmmm.... bitter for a hefe. Looked in the trash...

How modified is Weyermann Pale Wheat?

I will be brewing Ed Wort's Hefe tomorrow and was planning on doing a protein rest. I did single infusion last time and the head was not really where I wanted it, a bit clumpy and not as thick as I would have liked. According to the Northern Brewer site, Weyermann Pale Wheat, which is what I...

Good Belgian Recipie for Wyeast 3787?

Hi, I am planning on brewing Patersbier this weekend, so I should have a good amount of Wyeast 3787 slurry when I am done. Anyone use this recently to brew a big Belgian? I am not too hung up on the specific style as long as it goes well with the yeast. It will be an all-grain strong...

    Hops Transplanting Question

A friend of mine has graciously agreed to let me transplant my hops to his property where they will get a LOT better sun. We will be doing this in the next week or so. My mature hops have already started sprouting (numerous new bines about 1-1.5 feet). Should I trim these back prior to...

    Can't reattach corny posts??

Got a couple of corny kegs from Midwest recently (Dr Pepper) kegs were in the usual shape and were holding pressure. Went to change out all the o-rings prior to cleaning and the posts on one of the kegs were stuck on there like a *****. Took a lot of strength and a long craftsmen wrench to...

BeerSmith - how do you get the text of your recipes?

I have BeerSmith. Great software. I see other people use it here as well and post recipes from it. I can't for the life of me figure out how to copy those recipes into a format I can post in the forum, anyone know what I mean?

    S-04=Low Krausen???

Hey all, Just brewed up my second batch of Flannagain Standard Stout Using S-04, pitched straight in, fermenting around 66-68 degrees. The carboys are bubbling like crazy, but after 30 hours there is less than 1/2" krausen. I can see some thick brown crud on top, but the bubbles are not...

Dip Tubes -to cut or not to cut?

What is the conventional wisdom regarding taking an inch or so off your dip tubes vs leaving them alone? I can definitely see in theory that you would get less sediment with a shorter dip tube. Also, if you do dremel off a bit of dip tube, do you need to do anything to the freshly cut end?

    Cleaning Perlicks?

I know the Perlicks are more sanitary and all, but what do you guys do to clean them? I hit them with some star san and a faucet brush every now and again in addition to running pbw solution through when I clean my kegs.

    Gusher???

Ah jeez, I guess it was bound to happen eventually. I have an all-grain Maris Otter Pale ale with my home grown hops split into two fermenters. One I used us 5 the other was s-33 . They both fermented out fairly quickly and have not had any airlock activity for a week or so (been in there...

    Temp control for Kegerator

Hello all, Recently picked up a Haier Brewmaster keg fridge off ebay. No problem with the temp getting cold enough, but the thermostat seems a little inconsistent. To make matters worse, the thermostat is on the lower right outside of the refrigerator, which happens to be in a corner against...

    How much Tygon?

Well, just got my Tygon B44X after reading some threads on here. The lines I got from KegConnection made the beer smell like a new shower curtain, so I decided to go with the Tygon. My question, on my current set-up I have 10' per tap of standard 3/16 beer line. The flow is fine, a little...

    I think I found a cooler - which thermometer should I use?

I think I found a good cooler to use for my mash tun on amazon. Is 36 quarts/9 gallons enough to accommodate enough grain to make a double IPA or Belgian style dubble/triple? The cooler is a little pricey, but I would rather spend an extra 20 bucks and know that my temps are holding steady. I...

Just got my kegging setup, let the stupid questions begin

Alright! I was stoked today to see a big box from Midwest supplies waiting on my doorstep when I got home today. Inside, two used kegs (looked to be in pretty good shape) a double regulator (2 pressure) and a brand new 5lb aluminum CO2 tank. I am looking everything over and I notice the...

    Finally took the kegging plunge

Well, after a couple years of pondering, I decided to make the plunge and start kegging. The SWMBO was getting mighty tired of me making a bottling ruckus at night, and the whole routine was getting old to me as well. I always look forward to brew days, it is fun, but bottling was starting to...

    Harvested - now what?

I collected a very meager harvest (only about 20 cones) from my first year centennial and am wondering what I should do now. Am I supposed to cut the vines down? If so, do I cut all the way to the soil? The vines got really long, just never sprouted a lot of cones. The cones appeared in late...

    Bavarian Hefe - which hops?

I am about to brew a bavarian style hefe from a simple recipe of: 5 Gallon batch (late extract addition) 6lbs Muntons dry wheat extract Wyeast 3068 Weihenstephan Weizen Problem is, I don't have the hops called for in the recipe. I do have an unopened package of Galena or about a half ounce of...
