Brew planned this weekend, realized grain bill is not going to fit

It sounds to me like you NEED a bigger mash tun. Go get a 40 quart cooler, some pipe and build one. Here's a good thread about how to do it.

    Ok, Admit You Do It

I regularly mark every corner of my property. If you don't piss on it, how will they know it's yours?

    Does Yeast Die

If you add a little glycerol and cool it slowly, you can store yeast at -80 or below indefinitely. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f13/guide-making-frozen-yeast-bank-35891/ In the lab I worked in, we used a Mr. Frosty (http://www.thermoscientific.com/en/product/mr-frosty-freezing-container.html...

    dual purpose mill?

Yes, you can use one grain mill for both. The only difference is distance between the rollers or plates (depending on your mill). Set them close for flour and further apart for cracking grain. There are, of course, other opinions...

    Spectrophotometry

While you're spending the cash, why not invest in a good UV-vis and an NMR? :)

    Spectrophotometry

I wouldn't go with a dilution, I'd simply make a thinner sample tube, maybe like those hydrometers for measuring antifreeze. You could calibrate the tube for each of the balls (sink/float) to get big divisions, and then interpolate values between depending on how much the partuicular ball...

I hate running, but this was awesome.

If running doesn't work for you, try a bike. It's easier in the back and knees. My club regularly does a rail-trail ride to a brewpub (30 mi. round trip). The beer tastes especially good. Now, if only they'd install showers or even a hot tub.

What the F is this thing?

Oh, I'm sorry, I meant yep to "Does the handle turn left to right (or vice-versa) to open + close the jaws?" It is an accessory to a tool that I frequently use to screw and drill. :mug: http://www.toolselect.com/tsimages/Ridgid-R86008K-full_size-59.png

What the F is this thing?

b-boy: Yes it's my basement; but I drink, so... Some good answers. Thanks for the laughs. My wife figured out what it is. Anybody else want to guess or should I reveal the answer?

What the F is this thing?

I'm cleaning up my basement, and I came across this thing: Anyone know what it is? If not, please make something up.

Flies with green bodies on brewing patio

Anybody ever have house-flies with green bodies congregating where you brew outdoors? I built a patio to brew on last summer and didn't have any problems with flies. This year, they are really thick--like 10 per square foot in places. I'm wondering if they're attracted by spills and...

    Scotch/scottish brewing advice.

Oops, I meant to say too heavy for a parti-gyle recipe. You said it looked like a grainbill for a stout.

    Scotch/scottish brewing advice.

I plan to get a Strong Scotch, Export and Light Scottish out of it (15 gallons). Are you sure it's low for a parti-gyle recipe? I was adding the chocolate and patent to get the color, but I think I'll drop them significantly--especially since others have encouraged caramelization to get...

    Scotch/scottish brewing advice.

Yes, talking about fermentation temps. Getting mash temp high is not a problem.
