    HLT as chiller

Cool - thanks. I have a 50' ss coil. Thought I would switch it a few times during the boil and see how it worked. Moved to new place and will end up with a nice workable indoor spot. Already moved to electric - so should make things much easier and less weather dependent.....

    HLT as chiller

I have been cooling with tap water until about 80-85 deg then switching to chilled (ice) water for the last bit down to about 60-65 deg. That only needs 10-15 pounds of ice. I use a submersible pump and a bucket. Pump in bucket, then ice, then enough water to get things started - waters comes...

    W...T....F... Petraeus!?!?

The thing I am trying to figure out is: This was a long running affair as I understand it - so why did this not come up when he was vetted for the CIA job. Either they did not notice which unnerving or they noticed and did not care - not much better.....

    First time home buyer

If no one has told, get a quality home inspection and follow that if it leads to other issues. In other words, pay a little money to find out about any potential and perhaps not obvious issues with the house. Often the seller will pay to make such repairs - unless a large issue is discovered...

    Foaming... Epoxy bayonet mod question

The mixers actually seem to help enough to notice. I have added one to each keg. Two was too much - so, give them a try. Easy to install - just remove the post and drop it in.

Opinion on my cooling of wort

I am in East Texas - it was 106 on the back porch Saturday when I brewed last (OktoberFast per BM). Anyway, I do the two step and cool with ground water from flame out to about 100 degrees with an IC. I then switch from ground water to iced water pumped around by a submersible. It melts 10-15...

    Relays vs. SSR's

Back to the original question: Mechanical Relays versus SSRs Note that SSR stands for Solid State Relay. If you switch the mechanical relays just as fast as the SSR you should get the same level of control (holding of desired temperature). The question is: how long will a mechanical relay last...

    Where to start?

I am in the process of moving from 5 gal batches to 10 gal and starting the move to electric. I brew on the back porch (out of the rain but outside none the less) and it gets very hot in the summer and can be very cold in the winter. I doubt I can move off the porch - but I can make it easier to...

How big does it really need to be

OK - moving from 5 gal to 10 gal batches. How big does the Brew Kettle really need to be? 15 gal or 20 gal I think I have all the other major items covered - but the 10 gal kettle is not going to work. I would like to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks!

    Grain Question

I don't - seems the guy is supplying cheap (free) ingredients. That would count for a lot in my book!
