American Porter Edmund Fitzgerald Clone (AG)

It's a very good beer if you can get your hands on it. Available just about everywhere on the east coast

    Growing hops from seed

I guess it would be the same as stratifying. Pretty much submerge seeds under water and keep in fridge. This water is changed every day to simulate snow melt.

    Growing hops from seed

Has anyone tried cold soaking to germinate? I have done this with apple seeds before and had around 80% germinate. I'm wondering if it might work for hops as well.

    Krausen not dropping completely?

It's going to take extra time at that temp. I'm assuming you're close to terminal gravity. If so (check) start bumping up the temp slow over a few days until you hit 65.

I like the result of us05, I just mash accordingly. Nottingham should be good as well...

First run using counter flow chiller

It depends on how cold your water is, if you're using gravity or a pump, and finally what temp you're trying to achieve. If your water is too cold for what your aiming for you can slow it down to get your wort warmer. This is seldom the case. If the wort is coming out too hot you would slow...

Personally I would leave it until day 14 or so and then bottle. Age for 3-4 weeks in bottles then consume. But that's just me. I don't see the benefit of cold conditioning a low abv porter.

I haven't done so myself, but I think it makes a great base recipe to add another flavor component to. I have been planning to do a batch with coffee sometime in the near future.

Heavy sulfidic smell from fermenting wheat beer

It happens with wheat beers, particularly because of the yeast strain. No need to worry. It should dissipate soon enough.

    What's good in upstate NY?

Three heads brewing in rochester, Abandon brewing in finger lakes area and of course Genesee. Rochester doesn't have much for attractions, but you can't go wrong walking around park ave. Bars, restaurants, bakeries and chocolate shops.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Gotcha. I misunderstood your first response. I'll have to dig through my stuff to see what I have for wiring. Thanks!

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

Wait, so the ground, data and vcc would be connected to one wire? That wouldn't be problematic? I get the idea behind the one wire in terms of the data line, but I'm confused how you could mix all three and still have a sensor.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

BTW I booted up the controller last night so I could figure out the wiring issue with the sensors and they showed up this time. I'm not sure as to why, but I'll take the win. About the sensor length, I foolishly bought the 100cm probes. Could I solder it together with some cable from home...

Bummer, I figured as much. I guess I'll play around with the wiring and see what I can make happen.

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I'm sure this has been asked before, but is there an easy way to determine which sensor wires are ground, data, vcc? It appears my flash of the arduino was successful, but temp probes aren't showing up. I followed the diagram and the diagram provided with my sensors. I used some very thin...

    Growing hops from seed

Does anyone have a good source for seeds? If so, a pm would be greatly appreciated. I ordered from two vendors on ebay. First to arrive were beat up, dried out and breaking apart. Second are obviously not hop seeds, just a scam.

    When to start re-circulating.

If you watch Kals brewing video, it appears he starts his right away and allows his mash to climb to temp. I use RIMS and always mash in close to temp, wait 15 minutes and then start recirculation. If I don't let the grain bed settle, absorb water it usually turns out to be a stuck mash.
