    "Yeast is Yeast"

I saw this post on Mashable and of course immediately thought of beer...and also immediately wanted to separate the two. This is going to happen, but not by me. So who will it be? Or has this already been done and I've missed it @DogFishHead @BrewDogs...

Bad Stuff in Stir-Plate Yeast Starter?

I have a 5L yeast starter on a stir-plate that I started 12 hours ago with 2 vials of WLP001. It seems to be progressing as usual, but there is a dark brown ring in the foam at the top that looks like cinnamon. Any idea what this is? Should I remove it? Or is it OK? I appreciate any advice...

    Which Layer is Yeast?

From the top, the first layer is beer, and then there are 2 more layers. I thought it would be layer 2, but is it possible it is layer 3 (will some yeast settle under the trub?)? I brewed 10 gallons of an IIPA. I used 2 new vials of WLP007 into a 4L starter on a stir-plate. Fermentation went...

How much time to get to 1.010-1.006?

I've been searching (and searching) HBT and the internet to find the best/easiest/cheapest way to monitor the temperature of my mash wort exiting the MLT and entering the HERMS (I won't be using it to automate anything, yet, just display temp). I'm close to lost with all of the options. I found...

2 Roller Mill vs 3 Roller Mill for Conditioned Malt

I'm looking for advice and opinions on the pro's/con's of using a 2 vs 3 roller mill on conditioned malt. As simple as that. Thanks in advance!

    CO2 Usage

I'll start out by saying I'm completely new to kegging (have bottled my fair share), but I've read a ton on this site and learned a lot (thanks!). My situation: I did a ~15-gallon AG batch that got split into four 5-gallon carboys. My share was three, one went to my buddy. So each carboy had...
