    Bere Malt Availability

I live in Dayton, Ohio and my LHBS, Brewtensils, is really awesome and would stock Bere Malt if I asked-which I have before. I believe I may have to keep searching for some grain availability, as I imagine there is no Bere Malt available in ready to mash form. Thank you for your feedback! I...

    Bere Malt Availability

I am currently on a Scottish Heather Ale kick and wanted to know if there was any place I could order Bere malt, which is a traditional Scotch malt that is not grown in large commercial quantities. I would be willing to buy a good amount if anyone knows a vendor. Any help would be appreciated.

    Refractometer vs hydrometer

I used to work in a chemical processing plant that used hydrometers, refractometers, and auto specific gravity sensors. Honestly, they all work. If you can spare sample for a hydrometer, go for it. I personally love my refractometers-it requires very little for a sample and is dead on to...

    I believe I created a monster

Having looked through a number of ancient ale recipes, I am most curious about the balance of spices to the buttering/aroma/ flavor hops. I would assume the spices could act as all three, so I eagerly await an update on how the flavors balanced! Having brewed with sage before, I can defiantly...

    Grain bag or cheese cloth

I brew all-grain recipes and don't use any bags at all! I fact, I toss the grains in the pot, mash, then filter throw a large strainer a few times to get my wort ready for boil. I end up composting the grains, so I prefer not to bag the grains. I should caveat this by saying I am only brewing...

    So who's brewing this weekend?

I am going to start working on my St. Patty's day lie-up this weekend! First up is a nice black stout, followed by a Smithwicks clone. I may try a Boddington's Clone as well, just depends on my free time.

    How Long Do You Ferment?

Thanks for this post! I just started brewing and tried a 2-2 approach (2 weeks in primary and 2 in the bottle). I think I am going to try a mix of 3-3 and the 3days of consecutive gravity readings to ensure I don't over-carbonate my bottles.
