    Grain w/ bugs???

Buggy grain as we set up to brew a Tripel. Anyone ever done this? I know the heat will kill them, but SWMBO is worried about filtering them out. Plan to use a hop sock as we run off into the kettle. I figure any that make it through that will settle out. What would you do?

    Decoction vs Infusion

Trying to get a stellar head on a beer. Has anyone brewed the same recipe using a decoction mash vs a single infusion and found that the finished beer had a better head? From my research, it seems that one of the keys to good foam on hefeweizens is due to decoction mashing. Thinking of...

    Abbey brewing ???

Just read "Brew Like A Monk" and it mentions re-pitching primary yeast. That's telling me to pitch again, with the same yeast before bottling, along with priming? We'll be bottling a Trippel that has been in Secondary for 9 weeks soon, and a bit concerned that the yeast remaining in it will be...

    Clearing beer in secondary

We just brewed a Trippel, SG was 1.086, has fermented down to 1.022 after 5 days. Put it in secondary today hoping it will clear. This is from AHS's Trippel kit. It is very cloudy, and we would like to clear it before we bottle. We know it will probably need to sit and settle in secondary...

    bavarian yeast for a wit

I have all the ingredients for a Belgian wit beer, but my LHBS got in a Bavarian Wheat smack pack, Wyeast #3056. Will it work? Anyone tried this? I'm using the recipe in Joy of Homebrew, "Who's in the garden Cru", if that helps. Thanks.

Dry yeast for a wheat beer?

We have made a batch of Hefeweizen using WhiteLabs #300, just bottled yesterday, but I'm sure it will be the best beer, ever. Are there any dry yeasts suitable for wheat beers that will give the characteristics sought in classic hefeweisens? You know, cloves, bananas, spicy, etc.... While...

    2nd batch taste test

Nice pop when I open the bottle, little cloud of gas on top of the beer when looking in, nice hoppy, malty aroma, decant into racing glass, and a beautiful dark amber liquid fizzing, swirling. Big nose inhale, more hops, malt, little bit of oak, just a hint, I wouldn't smell it unless I knew...

    Allergies? Please help

Ever since I've started brewing, about 4 weeks/3 batches ago, my eyes have been very dry and itchy. Anyone else have this happen? About the same time, though, we had some house painting done, and I started a new job, all indoors for the first time in my life. My eyes feel better pretty much...

    just racked our 2nd batch

An IPA partial extract. God it tastes good right out of the secondary. My wife and I really enjoy this. We're going to cook up a Porter on Sunday. We're almost out of our 1st batch, I think we may have to resort to Sam Adams or some such.

Couple in Georgia, new to homebrew

Of course, we started w/ a no boil stout kit, and last night we just put a made from extract IPA into the first stage fermenter. This is pretty fun. Our Stout ended up a little thin, we used Guiness as a benchmark, realizing we wouldn't get the head and sour taste, but we're happy enough with...
