    Is my Refractometer running bad ? I got 17.5 reading. But 12lbs of honey for 5 gal should be 12% plus the 4 lbs... Why am I getting only 17.5 brix ? I have read online that adding fruit to primary adds proteins that help fermentation and secondary for flavor.

    Best way to prevent melomel oxidation?

    I have watched like 4 videos on tube where ppl make mead making tutorials and after all the steps they take to avoid oxynitation. :) most of their oxyginaton actually happens during transferring. I do oxygenate heavily during the first 5-6 days via degassing with a drill bit. So I don't know...

    The left over mead went sour in my cup, otherwise I transferred 5 gal to secondary, filled 1 gall water bottle. Drank about 1 gal that weekend and discarded like .5 gal from the bottom. I am thing about adding clarifying agent to it. Ok time to start planing next mead !

    Yahh, I tried that. I used my raking kane as a hose. When the pressure was low enouph it stopped pouring. So I had to pour off additional 2 litters into a water bottle. That filled those 2 litters with oxygen, and then I poured it to the rest of the mist, oxygenating the whole 9 years...
