Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Just brewed my second batch of this. Kept the recipe original except added .25 oz of citra at flameout. Split the batch between 2 carboys, one using us-05, the other using Conan. The Conan yeast is a monster and is chugging away!! Can't wait to try these brews.

    Cleaning bottles?

I have been collecting bottles for a while now(I keg). When I decided to clean them I filled a 5 gallon bucket with hot water and PBW. I place as many bottles as I can in there vertically; even some horizontally on top of the vertical ones, as long as I can completely fill the bottle. I let...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Brewed this using us-05. I was quite disappointed when I first tried it. I think all the really positive reviews for some reason made me think it was going to be a very hoppy beer. Stupid thought I know, because the recipe doesn't call for a lot of hop additions. Once I got over this stupid...

Ordering my first kegs, what else do I need?

Not sure what u mean by co2 wrench. I just use a normal crescent wrench to tighten the regulator to the co2 tank. If you're talking about the gas in and beer out posts on the keg I just use a normal box end wrench. I didn't have the proper size in my garage so I just took the empty keg into...

    Root beer Beer

I've had this stuff as well. Very potent stuff. 2 glaases and you're feeling gooooooood!!! I've searched for recipes also but everything just comes up for normal root beer recipes. All my buddies swear that you can't taste the alcohol, but I drink a lot of a&w so I'm pretty accustomed to the...

Ordering my first kegs, what else do I need?

I would assume you already have a regulator. I would also get a wrench to take off the posts for cleaning. I believe my posts use 7/8", yours might be different. Be sure to check the kegs for leaks and have a few extra poppets and o rings in case you need them.

What volume do you aim for?

So to sum it up, after brewing a 5 gallon recipe you should have 5 gallons post boil. If you want to have 5 gallons post fermentation for let's say .5 gal of trub loss; the proper way to do it would be to adjust the grain bill by an additional 10%, giving you 5.5 gallons post boil?

What volume do you aim for?

Pre-fermentation* lol. For some reason my homebrewtalk app was glitchy and I was typing blindly for those last 2 lines.

What volume do you aim for?

When doing a typical 5 gallon batch, or 10 or whatever volume your recipe called for; is that the pre fermentation volume, or is it the volume that you go for minus trub loss??? This is something I've always wondered. I myself have pitched yeast with both about 5 gallons of wort as well as a...

Accounting for lost volume in pumps and tubing in beersmith2

I added 3 gallons then after running it through the system ended up with 2.65 gallons, so I knew I had overall dead space of .35 gallons. It was easier than trying to measure how much was left in the hoses, mash tun etc.

    CraigTube

I agree. I like Craig and his videos are entertaining. It took me a while to figure out how kegging works and how to properly use a system. Craigs videos on kegging helped me a lot. I find that jumping into these forums as a new brewer, the majority of the threads are by seasoned brewers. So...

My first brew - with plenty of mistakes

Just an update. That beer turned out amazing. I dry hopped it with 2 oz citra 1 oz Amarillo. I'm on my fifth batch and I still haven't made one as good as that one.
