    Dogs

Here's Omar. Our Dobie mix. Playing with a puppy that we were watching for a couple of days. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/6mLN3w7IXmk?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    Absurdly High Markup on Beer.

I'm still pretty new to drinking better beer (a year) and obviously even newer to homebrewing (6 mos.), but it's very hard for me imagine myself doing much chasing down and overpaying for special releases. Maybe that'll change at some point, but there are just so many fantastic beers out there...

Best / worst commercial beer labels and brewery logos

I really like Sierra Nevada, Stone, and Oskar Blues labels. Not a big fan of DFH labels, for some reason.

    Legal Questions - Large Brew

I think he was saying non-homebrewer guests paid to attend the Craft Beer Festival, in which homebrewers would also be sharing their beer (but not receiving any money).

    Removing labels

An hour soak in hot water to loosen the labels (or fall off) and a quick scrape with a razor blade to get the glue off does the trick easy enough for me.

How many gallons of Homebrew in 2012?

    Yeungling overtakes Boston Beer Company

I don't like Yuengling either. I want to. It's cheap and it has more flavor than a BMC. Problem is, I find what little flavor it does have to be very off-putting.

How many gallons of Homebrew in 2012?

I brewed 15 gal. in January that I didn't list. 5 gal: a hoppy Amber type thing 5 gal: 111 IBU Pale Ale 5 gal: Rye Pale Ale 4667+15=4682

    AHS vs MWS vs NB

I just made my first online order and went with NB. I'm still an extract brewer and wanted to save money on extract and hops. NB was a pretty clear winner on price from what I could tell. I've got room to refrigerate 36 lb. of LME. The LME was pretty much the same everywhere, with NB being...

    Removing labels from beer bottles.

It's not as hard as I thought it would be. I don't find the need for any cleaners or chemicals. I soak 24 bottles at a time in a bucket of hot water. In about an hour, the label peels off easily. Then I use a razor blade to get the glue off. 90% of my bottles are Sierra Nevada and they are...

    Hops won't stop floating

Oh, I didn't realize it could take that much to make it sink. Follow-up question: Just how big of a deal is floating hops? I just let them float with the first batch. I didn't know you weren't supposed to. The beer was good. My LHBS guy seemed pretty adamant that letting them float was not a...

    Hops won't stop floating

I've got an ounce of cascade pellets in a hop bag attached to an 18/10 spoon. I can't see it, but I'm 99% sure the spoon is still attached. I've also tried pushing it down twice with the end of my wort stirrer (sanitized). Still, it's been 2 days and the bag's floating. Is it normal to...

    Mega Brew Day - Tips/Suggestions?

I had some time yesterday and essentially did this. 3 batches in reverse. I have 2 carboys and 3 buckets, but I like to use a bucket as a sanitizing bin. Doing it in reverse made it simpler. I wouldn't have minded buying another bucket, but I didn't feel like making the LHBS trip. Also, I dread...

I've become too much of a hop head

I feel the same way about big malt flavors. It doesn't take much for a beer to come off way to sweet for me and I'm not a huge fan very much breadiness either. The only way I like anything resembling strong malt flavors, is if it's completely overshadowed by the hops. I essentially only...

    Old Sears 3-burner camp stove

I'm trying to figure out if this thing will work for brewing/boiling. Does anyone know if these things generally provide enough heat to work for boiling 4-5 gallons of wort? I got it off craigslist for $25. It's old, but works. The prev. owner didn't know the BTUs and I can't tell. He did say...

    Bud Light Platinum 6.0% abv

I saw someone buying this at Sam's the other day. I also noticed that Sam's wasn't carrying 12-packs of Torpedo anymore. I have no idea how much those 2 things are related, but I'm curious to see how this plays out at grocery stores with much more limited space.

I've been getting free eggs from my spent grain

We volunteer at a local community greenhouse/farm that has a few chickens. I've only done a few batches, but that's where I've taken my spent grain. Although, I must admit, I personally enjoy snacking on it a little bit. Great flavor and makes a wonderful salad topper.

Help me with my pallet- examples of MALTY beers?

I don't know if I've had any of the beers mentioned so far (except Newcastle). The only ones I've even seen are Old Chub and Dead Guy. I don't drink malty beers very often, but I'd simply suggest Fat Tire. It's widely available. I don't know how it compares to the others mentioned, but it...

    feelings about clone brews?

I pretty new too, and I haven't used Beersmith, but I thought I'd at least mention hopville.com. I don't know how it compares to beersmith, but it seems to be a nice, introductory, free resource to formulating recipes. It'll give you an estimate of IBU's, target gravities, SRM, ABV, etc.
