    Beer to Use for Experimenting

What's a good beer to use for experimenting with adding flavors? I want to small scale adjust a tea and trial it in an off the shelf beer. The Tea will ultimately get added to a 5 gallon batch at bottling. Just want to play with mixes ahead of time first and will adjust addition as needed at...

    90 minute Hop Addition?

Been a member on here for quite some time but not very active. Been BIAB brewing 5 gallon batches in a 10 gallon kettle for about 5 years now and have pretty good process getting consistent 85% conversion. I have been trying some new things lately. Last week I did a FWH for the first time...

    Modify a Finished Wort

I will be doing a full volume BIAB so I should be good. I don't need the numbers to exact, just close.

    Modify a Finished Wort

Exactly what I was looking for... Thanks! So I am looking at the following for a 1 gallon top up batch. 4lb 2-row 1lb flaked oats 1 oz of a 12AA hops for 30 minutes Does this make sense?

    Modify a Finished Wort

I am being given 5 gallons of wort at 1.051 and 25 IBU. I want to do a mini mash to add flaked oats, increase the batch size to 6 gallons, increase the OG to about 1.065, and bump the IBUs just a bit (about 10 IBU). Is this possible and if so, how do I do it? I'm having a hard time doing the...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Just brewed this up for the first time over the weekend. Only $19.80 out the door of the LHBS for grains/hops/yeast. Shop owner had to add everything up twice because he couldn't believe I was brewing a 5.5 gallon batch for under $20. I had to come up with something lighter and less expensive...

    Starter hasn't cleared

My starters always look exactly like yours after cold storage in the fridge for 18-24 hours before pitching. There's still yeast in suspension but you've still propagated lots of yeast! I pull mine out about 3 hours before I think I will pitch, decant all but about an inch of the liquid above...

Peekskill Malt Balls Brown Ale - Bittering question

I was just looking at this recipe too and came across this thread. Does anyone know why the bittering hops are added at 15 minutes and not 60 as would be typical?

    High Than Expected FG

After signs of active fermentation were complete (about 5 days), I moved the fermenter from 60F ambient temp environment to 68F ambient temp environment and also swirled it. Checked the gravity three days later and saw no changes. It's got to be done.

    High Than Expected FG

The reason I mashed at 158F is because Yooper had posted in the recipe thread that that is the temp she likes to mash this beer at. I suppose my thermometer could be off slightly too so I may have even mashed a little higher. I'm going to assume that this beer is done at 1.020 and proceed to...

    High Than Expected FG

I brewed Yooper's Dead Guy Ale clone two weeks ago. The recipe can be found here: https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f66/dead-guy-clone-extract-ag-see-note-25902/ I brewed the all grain version as a full volume BIAB. Mashed at 158F for approx 75 minutes. My expected gravities were 1.066 OG and...

Munich Helles Dead Guy Clone (Extract & AG- see note)

Brewed this 10 days ago and got an OG of 1.060 which was a little low. Over the last three days the SG hasn't changed from 1.021 which is a little higher than I expected for this beer. I mashed at 158F (full volume BIAB) and used bottle harvested Pacman yeast. Should I just bottle this as-is...

    Is this enough Pacman?

This is for a 5.5 gallon batch. I've decided to go a ahead and make a one liter starter just to get these yeasties roused up and ready to go on brew day.

Munich Helles Dead Guy Clone (Extract & AG- see note)

I just got all my ingredients and will be brewing the original recipe this weekend using the Pacman yeast that I bottle harvested. I want to keep the fermentation temperature low as recommended throughout this thread. I have a basement closet that has been maintaining an ambient temperature...

    Is this enough Pacman?

I am getting ready to brew Yooper's Dead Guy Ale clone with the Pacman yeast I harvested from some Rogue brews. The quantity of yeast in the jar (1/2 pint) in the photo was obtained from harvesting from the three beers and stepping up three times. This was done about three weeks ago and has...

Munich Helles Dead Guy Clone (Extract & AG- see note)

Gonna be brewing this within the next couple of weeks and will be using the Pacman yeast that I harvested from three bottles as seen in the picture. I used three steps to get the quantity currently in the jar and will use this to make a starter just before brew day. Excited to see how this is...

American IPA Dogfish Head 60 Minute Clone (AG) & Extract

I just brewed this recipe over the weekend as my first all grain full volume BIAB. Without reading through this entire thread, I am wondering what everyone is using as an ideal mash temp. I'm making a 5.5 gallon batch so I added 14 pounds of grains to 7.5 gallons of strike water that was at...
