Easier way of making fruit beer?

I looked up some threads on how to make fruity beers, specifically raspberry. It seems that a lot of people thought that using real fruit was difficult because you either have to leave more beer on the bottom to avoid the pieces of raspberry or find some sort of way to strain it. I boiled the...

    Fruity wheat beer...

I wanted to make a fruity beer(uh, you know, for my girlfriend...) and they didn't have the light LME the recipe called for at my brew store. I bought a half light, half wheat mix, which I guess makes this a wheat beer. Is there any fruit that doesn't go well with wheat beers? I was originally...

    My defunct almost lager.

I made some lager and was all set for refrigeration in my mini fridge, when I found out that you are supposed to refrigerate in the carboy (as opposed to after bottling). My carboy didn't fit in the fridge so I just decided to refrigerate after bottling anyways. After two weeks of being in the...

    when to start refrigerating lager

I just wasn't sure...I have some Pale Ale in primary, is it possible to wait too long before lagering? It's been in primary for 5 days and I was going to go to secondary for a couple of weeks. Is that fine and then I just refrigerate after bottling or should I hurry it up before I mess up my lager?

    When to add bittering hops?

This might seem a little silly, but I just noticed that the two books I have suggest different times to add bittering hops...I just want an opinion on which way most people think is better. Do you let the water come to a boil, add the LME and DME and then wait for the water to BOIL AGAIN before...

    Priming sugar.

I wonder if I am using too much priming sugar. For a 5 gallon batch I am using 5oz of sugar to prime. First of all, and this may seem stupid but are we talking 5oz of weight? Using the metric system I was not aware that oz. was weight because I have this paper that shows how to convert oz. to...

    Boosting the ABV

Lets say I want to get slightly drunker by drinking the same amount of beer...The understanding I have come to is that you add sugar to your secondary. Do you add more yeast? and as far as sugar would it be a good idea to use some DME? I still want my beer to taste good and I want it to go up...

    Honey beer

Lets say I wanted to make a honey beer for one of my friends, (ok, I might drink a couple) Would you put the honey in the secondary, the wort or can you substitute honey for priming sugar?

Sooo...how do you start a secondary?

Now that I have a ton more equipment, I am going to try going to a secondary for the first time and have some questions. The understanding I have is that you do it after the beer stops bubbling and transfer to another container and just leave it there for two weeks. If I'm off please correct me...

    Emergency

I am retarded I am in the middle of making a batch and just realized that not only have I been using an incorrect measurement conversion for the hops in all of my recipes, I don't have enough of the kinds specified. I need 3/4 ounce of northern brewer and I only have about half. I do have...

    Roasted barley in the porter?

I have a lot of leftover roasted barley from my stout. I am going to make a porter but the recipe does not call for any grain steepage, Just dark LME and hops...Is this normal for a porter and would adding the roasted barley be a fun experiment or is it supposed to be sweet and I would just be...

question for people who know about lager yeast...

I am making a batch of pale ale and a batch of porter tomorrow and at the store I was in a hurry and for some reason thought I was making a steam beer and a porter...Now I have lager yeast for this recipe: 6lbs light new zealand LME 1 lbs light DME 12oz crushed caramunich 1 (was supposed to...

Where can I go for cheap ingredients?

I made a batch of stout for my second batch and rather then going through a kit I decided to follow a recipe I found and just by all the ingredients separate. It was using extract and steeping and I ended up spending like 80$ US on ingredients. Is there a cheap online place that doesn't charge...

    Is re-using yeast safe?

I read on a website about a technique for re-using, for example, a Wyeast smack pack up to five times for different brews. Has anyone done this? Is this normal and I'm just a sucker wasting it on one batch?

    How long do you steep?

When you steep the crushed grain while making wort they say to take it out before the water boils, at about 180 F I think. Do people normally use a thermometer to check that or do they go buy eye and if so do they mean take it out 1 second or 5 minutes before it boils? I know what is supposed...

    Guiness bottles with the widget

I don't know if anyone has tried this. I made a stout recently and bottled it in those guiness bottles with the widget inside, hoping for the same creamy foam. While it was bottling I found out it is nitrogen and not just the widget that does it. Here is the strange thing: All the beers in...

Wait they say, but do I look like a waiter?!

So far on the batches I have made I bottle the beer out of the primary as soon as the airlock stops bubbling. Last time the hydrometer reading seemed kind of high but it looks like the fermentation is done so I bottle anyways and just keep the reading for my notes. Anyways this usually means my...

This might be a little embarassing...

So just for fun. Has anyone ever wanted to start a batch and was missing some equipment? One time I didn't have a grain steeping bag, so I cut off half a pair of my girlfriend's nylons, sterilized it and used that instead. It seemed to work pretty well. Anyone ever do that? or improvize other...

    Want to fix my beer.

I have this taste that has been in both batches of beer I've made. I am assuming it is the taste of malt, but maybe I'm wrong. It is kind of sweet and I find that it dominates the taste of the beer so that I miss out on all the grainy goodness. My recipes call for 6.6 lbs of LME and 1.5lbs of...

    Need some help here please.

The only equipment I have is the kit I got for my birthday and now someone is making me an offer because they want to get rid of there old stuff. I want to know if this is a good deal or if I'm getting ripped off. He wants 82$ US for: 4 glass carboys-one with airlock 2 plastic containers of...
