    Wine fridge, suitable?

I'm looking into a fridge to ferment. The wine fridges keep popping up for sale. The size is good, bottom is flat, but that glass door?? And I question the insulation. I think it would be convenient to see inside. Any thoughts from the experienced brewers? Thanks for the reply, bob

    mini fridge frustration....

I'm looking to get a mini fridge, hook up an inkbird and hopefully make life easy. Hopefully. Does anyone have a mini that has a flat bottom that will hold a ferment bucket? Seems all the mechanical stuff on the ones I have seen are on the bottom...screws up the base. I have searched the...

    swamp cooler ice improvement?

I came across these packs at a salt water expo show and bought one for my fishing trips. There are 2 types, a 0 degree bag and a 32 degree bag. They are designed to keep things frozen or just above freezing. Perhaps they would be a help to you swamp cooler guys. Nu Ice. http://nu-ice.com/

    capping issues..another lesson

My irish red settled nicely at 1.016, time for bottling. Prep went smoothly, sanitized everything, transferred to the bottling bucket. I handled the priming mix a bit differently this time. The last (my first) i didn't get a good blend so this time I poured it in in stages, and gave a real...

    Harvest Moon, New Brunswick

A brew house on George St, downtown, park at the deck on Church St. They had 9 beers on tap, really good stuff. I am partial to the Irish Red, very drinkable. Closely followed by the Elmes and Moonlight. Worth the trip. Left with a growler of the Red. Moonlight Kölschbier German Kölsch 4.4%...

    whirlfloc

I have an irish red in the final stage of fermenting, gravity went from 1.060 down to 1.016, first reading. Whirlfloc was part of the recipe and I have to admit the beer looks good. With whirlfloc do any of you still cold break? The beer looks good, Killashandra Red from Brewers Apprentice...

    Hydrometer question

I've seen a few threads asking for help on a brew and the reply is, take a reading we can tell a lot from your hydrometer reading. So as a noob what all can you tell from a reading? I get the SG and the TG for ABV and the fact you can tell whether your fermentation is done, anything else...

Overcarbed? Yea I think so, why?

This is the second of two bottles I opened. I grabbed them because as I checked the bottles I could see the caps were raised, photo. It was apparent they were over carbed and the pressure was popping the top. When I prepped for racking I dumped the priming mix into the bottom of the bottling...

    Basil T's brewery

My second stop to a brewery now that i am a home brewer:p. Its a fun thing to do. Did a flight, their stout is killer, they also have a tasty wheat that is very drinkable. Grabbed a growler of the wheat. A nice beer for a Sunday afternoon. They have a nice German growler with the Grolsch type...

    yeast starter=pain

Another first for me, a yeast starter. The prep went well, to much water in the beeker, I had to grab the old baster and suck some out as the boil kicked in. I had a baby boil over. Getting it down to the temp range was a process, down, to much, up, to much, finally in the range 70-80...

    wet yeast fears

WLP004 Irish Ale Yeast This is the yeast from one of the oldest stout producing breweries in the world. It produces a slight hint of diacetyl, balanced by a light fruitiness and slight dry crispness. Great for Irish ales, stouts, porters, browns, reds and a very interesting pale ale...

    Kane Brewery

Through conversations here I found Kane Brewery in Ocean Twsp. Stopped in last night and back today. A pretty cool place, little bar, beer flight 4 for $4, growlers sold and filled, working brewery you can walk around. Good beer, I brought home a growler of Single Fin. A nice stop.

    First brew lessons/thoughts

Its been racked, its conditioning, some thoughts on things I learned. 1. You guys are adamant about no need to secondary 2. Need a 3 piece airlock, easier to clean 3. Vodka in the airlock 4. Cold crash worked pretty good 5. Star san is a great product 6. Bottle trees are nice to have 7...

    Bottling...priming sugar...oh NO!

Not that dramatic but I did have an oh no moment. Bottled today, first batch, all went well, then I tasted the remaining beer left in the bucket, way sweet. I did the priming sugar boil and poured all the syrup into the empty bottling bucket. Will the filling of the bucket with the wort dilute...

    Secondary, a strange twist

I racked to a secondary, yes despite suggestions here, after 2 weeks and the primary slowed/stopped. I moved the carboy about 3 feet from where the primary sat and now 3 days later the beer is still bubbling like a champ. Weird? When the wort went into the primary I did aerate, temp was...

    My first brew concern..

My amber ale yeast beer has been in primary since 1/3, starting was 1.045, a reading at 1/13 was 1.022, today's reading (1/18) was 1.020. I moved to a secondary because I'm aiming for a clear beer, wife likes clear beer. Should I be concerned with the slowness of the reading? Or just chill and...

    First brew...done. Nice.

Started about 11 AM, in the primary, cleaned up by 3. The day really went well, last minute decision delayed the start. I ran out and grabbed some new sponges, 4 gallons of distilled water, and a spray bottle. Two gallons went into the freezer for cooling, 2+ gallons were mixed for Star San...
