    Fermentating around 40 Degrees

I have been busy the past couple of months and have not been able to brew, now my Kegs are pretty much empty. Since I have an empty kegerator for the first time, I was thinking of brewing a beer that can be fermented around 40 degrees. I do not want to go out and buy one of those $100 temp...

    New airlock activity

So I was about to keg an Imperial IPA that I made 2 weeks ago. I took an gravity reading and it stabilized around 1.019 for the past week. I figured it was done, but when I moved the carboy to the kitchen it started to get some activity. I know I might have mixed a little together just in the...

Best method to siphon dry hops

I am planning on kegging an Imperial IPA (that tastes bad ass) this weekend. I dry hopped with no socks, bags or anything. I just dumped 1.5 or close to 1.75 oz of pellet hops into my primary. What would be the best method based on experience to siphon the beer into my keg with the least amount...

    Stalled Fermentation

I brewed a Bend Hop-Head Imperial IPA clone last weekend and had an OG of 1.068 and pitched 2 packets of Wyeast 1968. On Wednesday, I took a reading and it was 1.020 at 73 degrees, then today I took another reading and it was at 1.020 at 67.5 degrees. I dry hopped 1.5 oz of cascade hopes as...

Crap, I think I might have infected my beer

As I was finishing my brewing process, I garbed my thief to grab a sample for the gravity reading. I stuck the thief straight into the wort with out sanitizing it. After one thief from the wort, I realized what I did. I really hope i didn't doom the beer before it even gets going.

    Pumpkin Ale Critics

I just got done brewing a pumpkin ale a few hours ago and I would like some critics on style if possible. I followed this brewing recipe. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f76/maple-pumpkin-ale-24249/ I steeped grains instead of mashing since I do not mash at my current set up. I steeped...

    Think my beer carbonated

So I had my first batch in the primary for about a week then in a secondary for about 5 weeks. Its a simple begineers IPA so the recipe is pretty simple. Well anyways, I wanted to bottle at first, but then I ended up getting all my kegging equipment. I am kegging right now to be exact. My...

    Amazon Keg Dealers????

So I have $210 in amazon gift cards and all I am lacking for my homebrew keg system are 3, 5 gallon ball lock kegs. Does anyone suggest a certain buyer on Amazon to purchase the kegs through? I am looking to buy 3, 5 Gallon Ball Lock Kegs used and reconditioned. I have been in contact with...

    Why is it like this???

I brewed a Cincinnati Pale Ale and did everything right. This is about 7 hours into the primary fermentation process. I am not going to worry too much about this until 2 days in, but can anyone tell me what this is??? It looks like the yeast is up top, the wort is in the middle, and some of...

    Correct OG and yeast starter

I am doing my second batch and its Palmer's Cincinnati Pale Ale. I have been cruising the boards for the past hour and have not found my answer to a few questions: 1. The LHBS guy said with my yeast I do not need a starter, just pitch the dry yeast right into the chilled wort (Safale US-05...

    2nd batch suggestion

I am planning my second batch for this weekend. My first batch was an IPA extract batch that I am going to transfer to my secondary to make room for my second batch. I haven't quite made up my mind on why type of beer I am going to make, but I would like some suggestions on a little more...

    Specific Gravity Reading

Ok, I know this has probably already been answered but I am unable to find it in the fourm. I am going to run my second batch this weekend and I had some problems with a low OG on my current batch. When would be the correct time to take an OG reading? When the wort has cooled, when I have...

    Watered Down Wort

So this was my first batch of beer and I followed the instructions pretty well. I am in the second day of fermentation and since then I have read several chapters and much research to help grow my knowledge of brewing. I know the mistake I have made and will not repeat it, but I believe that my...
