I'm brewing an extract kit tomorrow for a Black IPA, from LHBS. The ABV is lower than I want (5%, I want 6% or more) and so LHBS said to add a lb of DME. I've heard add it last ten minutes of boil or even flame out. Suggestions? ANy thoughts/comments on doiung this in general?

For a black beer, when you add the dme isn't as important since it is dark and you don't have to worry as much about carmelization affecting the color. That being said, I now do all my extract additions late so I don't get any flavors I'm not expecting. Ditto on looking at more hops to balance the malt addition, shouldn't be much.

Cheers!
