It's been noted that chalk is not as effective as it ought to be in increasing pH given the amount of carbonate it contains. Lot's of theories have been advanced as to why this is so. I believe I have the answer and I even have experimental confirmation of my theory but it will be some time before I have it all figured out. Yes. In particular the theory says the same thing should happen with lime. Need to verify that.
