I used them in a Northern Brewer recipe: New Old ale.

Per Northern Brewer;

Simpsons Golden Naked Oats. 10° L. This unique product has a sweet berry-nut flavor. Used at a rate of 4-15% to add a deep golden hue, light caramel flavors, and a creamy, satiny finish.

Of course it also depends on the yeast you use. As that will help modify the style and as well as the flavor you want.

Yeah, the only place if seen it is in another strong ale: St. John's Red by Pelikan. It calls for a half pound of them; sounds like a damn good beer. With me being so impatient, it is pretty approachable for an English barleywine in terms of aging.

I'll bet it would taste like a "light" stout due to the sweet creaminess of the malt. Sounds like an experimentation is needed.
