im trying to make a chrismas list. i need a 4L flask for yeast starters that can be heated and cooled without shattering. i figured this would be easy for me to find but am having a tough time determining which brand i need. I have a pyrex 2L flask that works fine, but i see no markings telling me which "model" it is.

Pyrex, Kimax, Borosilicate... all valid descriptions of what you are looking for. I got lucky and found a 5L at my LHBS for a vey reasonable price. It's definitely not lab grade (typically a bit thicker), but it works.

"borosilicate" is the type of glass you want. anything else is just a manufacturer or brand, which is your preference. pyrex is obviously the big household name, but there are plenty of others.
