I have three 5 gal. pin lock kegs I got in trade from a brother-in-law. Can I just remove the pin lock posts and replace them with ball lock posts? Seems ball lock is the best to use now, but I'm not sure the posts are compatible.

You could but 2 posts is about $22 about the going price of a used corny. I have both and just keep 2 sets of disconnects handy. There is no big disadvantage to the pinlocks, the ball locks are just more plentiful.

probably not. Even the ball locks I have are different depending on the manufacturer. I have at least three different types and the pieces are not interchangeable at all.
