So I am going for an American IPA with good pine/wood aroma and flavor. Would love to get some opinions regarding the hops in this recipe. If anything, I was considering switching the Northern Brewer for Perle(same amount). With that said, would my current recipe give me the taste and smell I am looking for?

I would do this...

50% Extra Light DME
34% Extra Light DME (Late Addition)
10% Sugar (Late Addition)
6% American Crystal 20L

boil 60 mins 0.50 Northern Brewer
boil 15 mins 1.00 Chinook
boil 15 mins 0.50 Northern Brewer
boil 7 mins 0.50 Chinook
boil 7 mins 1.00 Simcoe
post-boil 30 mins 0.50 Chinook
post-boil 30 mins 1.00 Northern Brewer
dry hop 10 days 1.00 Chinook
dry hop 10 days 2.00 Simcoe

Safale US-05
(Why bother with expensive liquid WLP001 for a low gravity IPA?)

I would not add Perle, but I would add Columbus. With Northern Brewer, you'll get more of a minty, earthy quality. And Chinook is more grapefruit than anything else.

Lastly, Irish Moss is not necessary for an extract beer.

So I realize this is a super old thread but it looks like you are still active on the forum. I am looking for a piney IPA, how did this turn out?
