so i had an idea to add like 1/2 cup whole coffee beans to my brown ale in the secondary. so is that too much coffee? i'm probably not going to do it. i was just curious what would happen.

I would recommend not using the whole bean, but rather making double strength coffee and adding that to the secondary. Thee beans won't do much if they are not ground, and in my experience using just the grinds leaves a "bad coffee" taste behind. The only method I have seen that I liked is adding coffee itself.

cool thanks. yeah, i'm not going to add any. but now i know the right way. that's why i love homebrewtalk.com :ban:
