    Home brewing in Japan

Those were the ghetto days. I still managed to make beer, though! Cheers!

Well, every setup is different, but I'm guessing it will fill up quickly if you can't do a whirlpool or your picking up from the bottom of the kettle. During those days, I had not ball valve or siphon. I used one of those stainless steel mesh baskets that stretch across the top of the sinks...

Asahi malt is very fine. Their process is probably adapted to this. I used it when doing BIAB and typically had a lot of trub before hitting the fermenter. I filtered my wort on the way into the bucket. Man, that brings back memories...

    Hop runner depth/containment

Bamboo is very strong. In fact, where I'm at, bamboo groves are actually installed to reinforce banks with their strong root structure. It's also very good at preventing other things from growing. I live in Japan, BTW. Thanks for the info. I'll see what I can get in the way of plastic...

    Hop runner depth/containment

So, I'm about to finally put my hop crowns into a field. They've been in containers for 3 yrs. I was thinking to contain each variety with a partially buried barrier of some sort so that I can keep the varieties a little closer to each other. I'm sure some people out there have designs for...

Have you thought about where the faucet arm attaches to the base? I have an extra (cheapo) arm for mine. I use an arm with the tip being easy to connect a quick disconnect for garden hoses. I leave the qd permanently attached and just swap out the arm itself at the base.

    Japan Hops Trading -

Anyone have a cutting of shinshu wasei they'd be willing to make for me? I'll pay for shipping. I can even trade something. PM me if you can help. I'm also interested in Sorachi Ace, but seeming that this is the first year that it's readily available I'm guessing that homebrewers don't have...

There is a latch that keeps the spear from shooting out. If you take the extra steps to remove the latch, it works well. Removing the latch could be dangerous. Just remember to release the pressure before removing it. This tool helps depressurize the keg by pushing in the poppet when you...

Btw, the large bungs at advanced brewing fit the opening of the J-sanke kegs pretty well. Just keep in mind you can't ferment out a whole 20L unless you ferment it concentrated and dilute it later...

I just recently returned all my Asahi kegs and got the deposits back (traded for co2, etc)...

I used to use one. It's a very cheap way to start kegging, even though you're technically renting the kegs with the deposit price. It's expensive for what it is, but depending on how many kegs you want it can be cheaper overall. I used this system until I collected enough corneys to make the...

I was lucky. It's a sanke with part of the top cut out and converted to corney connectors (not by me). One extra port on top to which I attached an adjustable PRV for pressurized/closed system fermenting. Also has a port near the bottom but I just plug that with a thermometer. Counter...

Those pubkegs look interesting. Personally, I use a 15 galling keg, but those seem interesting enough. My thought are about the hole size in the internal vessel. Is that problematic? Also, I couldn't help but wonder if heating tape or pads fit between the inner vessel and the outside bucket...

When I give handouts I tell people to dilute it to 1%. Wink wink.
